Aim: To study the effects of extract from Ginkgo biloba (EGb) containing 22% flavonoid and 5% terpenoid on chronic liver injury and liver fibrosis of rats induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4)).

Methods: All rats were randomly divided into control group, CCl(4)-treated group, colchicine-treated group and EGb-protected group. Chronic liver injury was induced in experimental groups by subcutaneous injection of CCl(4) and fed with chows premixed with 79.

The adsorption isotherms of hydrogen on super activated carbon were measured systematically, covering a temperature range of 93-293 K at 20 K intervals and pressures up to 7 MPa. All the experimental data were linearized by adopting the coordinates ln ln(n) vs 1/(ln P). The results indicate that the adsorption limit (P(lim), n(lim)) exists virtually at high pressure and has a certain physical meaning.

Objective: To explore the relationship between sexual dysfunction and chronic prostatitis and investigate the effect of psychologic treatment.

Methods: A total number of 346 patients with chronic prostatitis complicated by sexual dysfunction were randomized into two groups, one treated with routine medication (antibiotic, indomethacin, alpha1 receptor blocker and Chinese traditional medicine), and the other with both routine medication and psychologic treatment. Results were analyzed by comparing NIH-CPSI and IIEF-5 between pre- and post-treatment groups.

Objectives: To evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of IgM to recombinant antigen E2 of HEV envelope protein in the diagnosis of acute sporadic hepatitis E.

Methods: anti-E2 IgM was detected in sera samples from 176 cases of acute sporadic hepatitis E and 191 cases of acute non A-E hepatitis by ELISA and was compared with HEV IgM detected by some domestic and Genelabs (GL) kits. HEV RNA was also detected in sera positive for anti-E2 IgM.

Objective: To screen mutations in the forkhead transcriptional factor 2 gene (FOXL2) in six Chinese families with blepharophimosis, ptosis, and epicanthus inversus syndrome(BPES).

Methods: PCR amplification and direct sequencing of the FOXL2 coding region in genomic DNA were performed in affected patients and 80 healthy controls. BLAST analysis of the sequence was made on Internet.

Objective: To study the effects of alum, aluminum chloride and aluminum hydroxide on aluminum contents in serum and brain of mice with high performance capillary.

Method: 60 days after the mice were given daily alum, aluminum chloride and aluminum hydroxide with the same aluminum content of 14.25, 57 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1), respectively, the aluminum content in serum and brain of mice were determined with high performance capillary chromatography.

Background: There is an increasing prevalence of ischemic nephropathy in the aging population of the world. However, the exact incidence of ischemic nephropathy in the Chinese population is still uncertain. The present study investigated the incidence of renal artery stenosis (RAS) in patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) using renal angiography.

Using a validated high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method, the pharmacokinetics of multi-constituents in Huangqin-Tang decoction were simultaneously studied both in the compound prescription and in each single herb decoction. At different intervals (0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, 36, 48 h) after oral administration of the Huangqin-Tang decoction or a single herb decoction at a dose of 10 g x kg(-1), the concentrations of the constituents and their metabolites: baicalin (BG), wogonoside (WG), oroxylin-A-glucuronide (OG), baicalein (B), wogonin (W), oroxylin-A (O), paeoniflorin (PF), paeonimetabolin-I (PM-I), liquiritin (LG), liquiritigenin (L), glycyrrhizic acid (GL) and glycyrrhetinic acid (GA), were detected in the rat plasma. A new metabolite-3,5,7,2',6'-penta hydroxy flavone (visidulin I, VD-I) was found in rat plasma after oral administration of Huangqin-Tang or a single herb Huangqin decoction, and the quality was identified by HPLC and LC/MS.
