A field experiment was conducted to study the effects of applying different organic fertilizers (refined organic fertilizer and bio-organic fertilizer) and their combination with 20% reduced chemical fertilizers on the microbes in rhizospheric soil of flue-cured tobacco, the resistance of the tobacco against bacterial wilt, and the tobacco yield and quality. As compared with conventional chemical fertilization (CK), applying refined organic fertilizer (ROF) or bio-organic fertilizer (BIO) in combining with 20% reduced chemical fertilization increased the bacterial number and the total microbial number in the rhizospheric soil significantly. Applying BIO in combining with 20% reduced chemical fertilization also increased the actinomyces number in the rhizospheric soil significantly, with an increment of 44.

Unlike many other intimate symbioses, which involve vertical transmission of symbionts to host offspring, female fig wasps fly great distances to transfer horizontally between hosts.

PTPN13 (also known as FAP1, PTPL1, PTPLE, PTPBAS, and PTP1E), a putative tumor suppressor, is frequently inactivated in lung carcinoma through the loss of either mRNA or protein expression. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying its dysregulation have not been fully explored.

In the present study, we further investigated the role of nuclear factor (NF)-κB in the CsA-induced trophoblast proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression and migration, and its relationship to MAPK3/1 signal. Flow cytometry was used to analyze the expression of PCNA in trophoblasts.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are a group of heterocyclic phytotoxins present in a wide range of plants. The consumption of PA-containing medicinal herbs or PA-contaminated foodstuffs has long been reported to cause human hepatotoxicity. However, the degrees of hepatotoxicity of different PAs are unknown, which makes it difficult to determine a universal threshold of toxic dose of individual PAs for safe regulation of PA-containing natural products.

A new phenolic glycoside, benzyl 2-hydroxy-4-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-benzoate (1), along with nine known flavonoids, epicatechin-(2 → O → 7,4 → 8)-ent-epicatechin (2), bis-8,8'-catechinylmethane (3), quercetin (4), quercetin-3-O-α-L-arabinfuranoside (5), quercetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (6), astilbin (7), engeletin (8), (2S,3R)-ent-catechin (9), and 2',4-dihydroxy-4'-methoxy-6'-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl dihydrochalcone (10), was isolated from the flowers of Pieris japonica. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of MS, 1D NMR, and 2D NMR techniques. This paper describes the isolation, structural elucidation as well as in vitro antioxidant activity of these compounds.

As compared with that of H17 and Nongda818, the seed kernel of KB008 had significantly higher protein content but significantly lower soluble sugar content and O/L ratio, and the contents of the amino acid components, especially glutamic acid and lysine, in the seed kernel of KB008 were significantly higher. During the whole growth period, the activities of nitrate reductase (NR) , glutamine.

Objective: To explore the in vivo anticancer effects of luteolin with BGC-823 gastric carcinoma xenografts in nude mice and elucidate its mechanism.
Methods: After modeling of gastric carcinoma xenografts in nude mice, 40 BALB/c (nu/nu) nude mice were randomly divided into 5 groups (n = 8 each). And an intraperitoneal injection of luteolin was administered at 10 mg/kg (low-dose), 20 mg/kg (middle-dose) and 40 mg/kg (high-dose) groups.
Background: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the main cause of blindness and the curative options are limited. The objective of this meta-analysis was to determine the association between aspirin use and risk of AMD.
Methods: A comprehensive literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and reference lists.
Common reed (Phragmites australis) and narrow-leaved cattail (Typha angustifolia L.) are two plant species used widely in artificial wetlands constructed to treat wastewater. In this study, the community structure and diversity of root-associated bacteria of common reed and narrow-leaved cattail growing in the Beijing Cuihu Wetland, China, were investigated using 16S rDNA library and PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis methods.

The IL-12 family of cytokines exhibits an anti-inflammatory property. IL-35 has recently been shown to influence the immune modulation in various diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, Graves' disease, rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, psoriasis, and type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Their serum fasting insulin, fasting glucose, insulin-like growth factor-1, adiponectin, IGFBP-1, triglyceride concentrations, and the homeostasis assessment model for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were evaluated.
Results: (1) The HOMA-IR values in SGA-I with catch-up growth group were significantly higher than those in SGA-II with catch-up growth, SGA-I without catch-up growth and AGA children respectively.

Background: Leukemia, a heterogeneous clonal disorder of hematopoietic progenitor cells, presents a world-wide health problem, especially in childhood. F1F0 ATPase, an inner mitochondrial enzyme, is expressed on the plasma membrane of tumor cells, and its inhibition induces both anti-angiogenic and anti-tumorigenic activity.
Methods: Monoclonal Antibody (McAb) against ATPase was produced by polyethylene glycol-mediated fusions and screened by ELISA.

Clinical presentations, disease activity, organ damage scores, autoantibody profile, and mortality data were obtained retrospectively from late-onset SLE patients (onset age ≥50 years) diagnosed between 1995 and 2009. The risk factors of organ damage were evaluated by the chi-square test and logistic regression.
