Empirical research using the Empathic Accuracy Task (EAT) has suggested that schizophrenia patients and people with schizotypal personality disorder exhibit lower empathic accuracy than healthy people. However, empathic accuracy in a subclinical sample with high levels of schizotypy has seldom been studied. Our study aimed to investigate empathy in a subclinical sample using the Chinese version of the EAT and a self-report empathy measure.

Impairments of translating emotional salience into effortful behavior are core features of anhedonia in cohorts with major depressive disorder. Glutamate metabolism is considered to be involved in this process, but the empirical study is relatively few. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine the correlations between glutamate level in pregenual anterior cingulate, anhedonia, and emotion-behavior decoupling in patients with major depressive disorder.

Response inhibition, a crucial component of executive function, is closely related to personal impulse control, social adaption, and mental health. Previous studies have found response inhibition deficit in patients with major depressive disorder, but whether it also exists in individuals with subclinical depression (SD) remains unclear. This study aimed to identify the ability of response inhibition to emotional face stimuli both under explicit and implicit conditions in individuals with SD.

Unwillingness to exert effort for rewards has been found in patients with schizophrenia (SCZ), major depressive disorder (MDD), and bipolar disorder (BD), but the underlying shared and distinct reward neural mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to compare the neural correlates of such impairments across different diagnoses. The neural responses in an effort-expenditure for reward task (EEfRT) were assessed in 20 SCZ patients, 23 MDD patients, 17 BD patients, and 30 healthy controls (HC).

Interoceptive accuracy has been widely measured using the Heartbeat Tracking Test (HTT). We devised the novel paradigm of Interoception-Exteroception Synchronicity Judgement (IESJ) task to assess participants' interoceptive accuracy, exteroceptive accuracy, and the balancing score which reflected the ability to allocate attentions between interoceptive and exteroceptive signals. This study administered the behavioural paradigms of the HTT and the IESJ as well as other self-report scales to 119 typically-developing youths.

Article Synopsis
  • Interoception, the ability to sense internal bodily states, is thought to play a role in social and cognitive functions often affected in individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
  • In Experiment 1 with 114 neurotypical college students, researchers found a link between autistic traits and alexithymia but did not establish a connection with interoceptive accuracy using a new task called the Eye-tracking Interoceptive Accuracy Task (EIAT).
  • Experiment 2, which involved preschoolers, adolescents, and adults, revealed a strong connection between age and interoceptive accuracy, suggesting that while cardiac interoception varies across age groups, it is not closely related to autistic traits.

Article Synopsis
  • Phosphorus (P) is crucial for plant growth, but its deficiency negatively impacts nutrient absorption and photosynthesis in citrus, specifically in 'sour pummelo' seedlings.
  • In experiments, P deficiency reduced leaf and stem weight while increasing the root/shoot ratio and led to lower chlorophyll content and CO2 assimilation.
  • The study also found that P deficiency created an imbalance in nutrient levels, affected electron transport in photosynthesis, and increased oxidative stress markers, linking these factors to reduced growth in C. grandis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how aluminum (Al) affects self-germinated seedlings of two different citrus plants, specifically looking at their growth and nutrient content over 18 weeks.
  • It was found that one plant exhibited decreased growth and nutrient accumulation due to Al exposure, while the other plant showed no significant changes, indicating varying levels of Al tolerance.
  • The research identified specific miRNAs that respond to Al stress, which may play key roles in root development, stress response, and overall plant health, enhancing our understanding of how plants manage Al tolerance at a molecular level.

Background: Schizotypy refers to schizophrenia-like traits below the clinical threshold in the general population. The pathological development of schizophrenia has been postulated to evolve from the initial coexistence of 'brain disconnection' and 'brain connectivity compensation' to 'brain connectivity decompensation'.

Methods: In this study, we examined the brain connectivity changes associated with schizotypy by combining brain white matter structural connectivity, static and dynamic functional connectivity analysis of diffusion tensor imaging data and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data.
