In this paper, we optimized a method for fast and accurate determination of five impurity elements (As, Sb, Bi, Se, and Ge) in graphite samples to overcome the shortcomings of existing methods, such as complicated equipment, cumbersome process, multiple-time preparation, separate determination, and large error in results. Graphite samples were digested with HNO-HSO-HClO-HF in a high-temperature and high-pressure microwave digestion apparatus, and the elements were extracted and determined separately by AFS (atomic fluorescence spectrometry). There is no element loss during the processing and analysis of this method.

Article Synopsis
  • Lichens are effective indicators of air pollution due to their ability to accumulate various atmospheric chemicals, making them valuable for environmental monitoring.
  • In regions with significant air pollution, like North China, lichen samples show higher elemental concentrations, necessitating improved methods for analyzing these elements.
  • A new protocol is suggested for analyzing 31 different elements in lichens using ICP-AES/MS, with specific methods for detecting 22 elements through microwave digestion and 9 elements through ashing-alkali fusion digestion.
