Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the potential of gut microbiota as predictive biomarkers for patients with postpartum depressive disorder (PPD) undergoing acupuncture treatment.
  • About 79 PPD patients were analyzed, with 55 receiving acupuncture and 24 not receiving any treatment; nearly half of those treated showed a positive response.
  • Results indicated that certain gut microbiota species were more prevalent in acupuncture responders, suggesting they could help predict treatment efficacy, but further research is necessary for validation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the connection between immune responses and the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating postpartum depression (PPD), particularly focusing on inflammatory cytokine levels.
  • Among the 121 women with PPD, significant reductions in depression scores were observed after 8 weeks of acupuncture, yet changes in cytokine levels did not significantly differ between those who responded well to treatment and those who did not.
  • Results indicate that responders showed lower levels of certain inflammatory cytokines like IL-6 and IL-10, while non-responders had higher levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, suggesting acupuncture may help alleviate PPD by modulating the body's inflammatory response.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focuses on the use of acupuncture combined with rehabilitation exercises for treating peripheral facial paralysis (PFP) and aims to develop a new method for evaluating the effects of this treatment.
  • Researchers will be recruiting 200 participants and utilizing advanced technology like laser speckle contrast analysis (LASCA) to monitor facial blood flow and analyze its correlation with facial symmetry.
  • The study will also create a database of facial expressions and use machine learning to enhance evaluations of the efficacy of acupuncture and understand changes in blood flow before and after treatment.

Cerebral ischemia is one of the most common diseases treated by acupuncture therapeutics. Recent studies indicated that acupuncture treatment by needling the conception and governor vessels had positive effects in promoting neural regeneration in patients after cerebral ischemia injury. Acupuncture intervention could continuously promote the proliferation and differentiation of the neural stem cells in the brain, obviously up-regulate expression of growth factors, accelerate angiogenesis and inhibit apoptosis.
