Objective: To develop the best short form of constitution in Chinese medicine questionnaire (CCMQ) and evaluate its psychometric properties in Chinese population.

Methods: A total of 21 948 subjects were used to refine the short form. Correlation coefficient, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Cronbach's alpha coefficient were used to analyze and select items to form the short form.

Objective: To conduct a case series analysis on Professor Wang Qi's prescriptions for oligoasthenospermia and a preliminary discussion on the clinical application of the pathogenesis theory of "kidney deficiency with dampness, heat, stasis, toxin and parasites" so as to provide some reference for the diagnosis and treatment of oligoasthenospermia by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

Methods: We selected 13 representative cases of oligoasthenospermia treated by Professor Wang Qi, analyzed the basic conditions of the patients, changes of the disease and prescriptions used, and investigated the treatment of oligoasthenospermia in view of Professor Wang Qi's TCM theory on andrology.

Results: Excellent therapeutic effect was achieved in 7, indefinite effect in 5 and no effect in 1 of the 13 cases.

The chemical properties of characteristic components are significant to the manufacturing quality control of big brand traditional Chinese medicine. In this study, the Huangjing Zanyu Capsules were used as the research carrier to determine the content of five characteristic components including icraiin, emodin, schisandrin A, 2,3,5,4'-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-β-D-glucoside, and osthole simultaneously by high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). The results showed that the chemical properties of five cha-racteristic components had a good linear relationship(r>0.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focuses on analyzing the treatment rules for oligoasthenozoospermia (OAZ) established by Wang Qi, a well-known expert in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
  • Researchers collected and analyzed 134 prescriptions from Wang Qi, identifying that the TCM drugs used are mostly neutral to warm with sweet tastes, and primarily target the liver and kidney systems.
  • Wang Qi believes that kidney deficiency, dampness-heat, blood stasis, and toxins are the main causes of OAZ, advocating treatments that strengthen the kidneys, improve blood circulation, and eliminate excess moisture and heat.

Objective: To explore the regulatory effect of Huatan Qushi Decoction (HTQSD) on lipid metabolism and semen quality in obese rats with oligoasthenozoospermia (OA) and its underlying mechanisms.

Methods: Ninety-six 8-week-old male Wistar rats were randomly divided into six groups of equal number: blank control, OA model control, Wuzi Yanzong Pills (WZYZP), and high-, medium- and low-dose HTQSD, the blank controls fed with a normal diet and the others with a high-fat diet, all for 8 weeks. Meanwhile, the rats in the blank control and OA model control groups were treated intragastrically with normal saline, those in the WZYZP group with WZYZP at 1.

Purpose: A negative relationship between intraocular vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGFA) and axial length was found, which may help explain why myopia with long axial length was a protective factor for development of diabetic retinopathy (DR). The aim of this study is to further assess the relationship between the aqueous humor levels of interlukin (IL)-8, IL-10, VEGFA, vascular adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), basic fibroblast growth factor, VEGFB, and placental growth factor (PLGF) and axial length in eyes with DR.

Design: Retrospective, single-center, unmasked study.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on optimizing the extraction process of a traditional Chinese medicine, Tuomin Dingchuan Prescription, by identifying critical process parameters (CPPs) and critical quality attributes (CQAs) to ensure stable efficacy.
  • - Key CPPs included extraction times, extraction duration, and water ratio, while the important CQAs identified were the extraction amount of solid matter and amygdalin content, found through experiments like variance analysis.
  • - The optimal extraction method was defined as soaking the herbs in water for 30 minutes, extracting three times for 100 minutes each using 10 times the water volume, while the forming process for Tuomin Dingchuan granules required a specific ratio of dry extract to excipient and ethanol for

Purpose: Because there is a paucity of population-based data on retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFLT) for children, we measured the RNFLT and its associations in schoolchildren.

Methods: The population-based Gobi Desert Children Eye Study included all schoolchildren aged 6 to 21 years living in Ejina, Inner Mongolia. The children underwent a comprehensive ocular examination with cycloplegic refractometry and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography of the optic nerve head.

Objective: To investigate the effect of Bazi Granules on sperm quality in male rats with oligoasthenozoospermia (OAS) induced by multi-glycosides of tripterygium wilfordii (GTW).

Methods: Thirty-six SD male rats were randomly divided into six groups of equal number: normal control, OAS model control, Wuziyanzong Pills (WYP), and low-, medium- and high-dose Bazi. The OAS model was established in the rats except those of the normal control group by intragastrical delivery of GTW at 30 mg/kg/d for 40 days.

Cyclophosphamide (CP) is a widely used anti-cancer agent; however, it can also induce serious male infertility. There are currently no effective drugs to alleviate this side-effect. L-Carnitine has been used to treat male infertility, but whether it can be used to protect against CP-induced male infertility is still unclear.

Objective: To assess associations between the aqueous humour concentration of interleukin IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 and IL-12p, tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and axial length in eyes with cataract.

Methods: The hospital-based investigation included patients who underwent cataract surgery between March 2014 and April 2014. Using aqueous humour collected at the start of cataract surgery, the interleukins IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 and IL-12p, TNF-α and VEGF were examined using a cytometric bead array.

Constitution factor plays an important role in the occurrence, development, and transformation of diseases. The occurrence of allergic diseases is mainly caused by the disorganized physiological function and suitability regulation of patients, except for their exposure to outside allergens. Moreover, it represents susceptibility and hypersensitivity to allergens.

Translational medicine is a new concept presented in recent decades, the core of which is to build a bridge between basic medical research and clinical application. From the beginning of constitution of Chinese medicine, clinical application has been given priority. Therefore, the idea of translational medicine is fully demonstrated in the research into the three key scientific problems of "classification of constitution of Chinese medicine", "relationship between constitution and disease" and "adjustment of constitution".
