Ficus religiosa L., known as bodhi tree, is an ornamental tree and widely planted as an avenue and roadside tree due to ovate-rounded leaves with narrow, elongated tips. Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify hypoglycemic components from acid hydrolyzates of total saponins and assess their effectiveness in inhibiting α-glycosidase enzymes and PTP1B.
  • Researchers purified eight compounds using silica gel chromatography and identified their structures through NMR, finding that one compound was previously unreported.
  • Some isolated compounds showed strong inhibitory effects, particularly one with an IC value significantly lower than the control for α-glucosidase, suggesting potential use as a functional anti-diabetic agent.

One new dammarane-type triterpene, gypsapogenin A (1), was isolated from the acid hydrolyzate of total saponins from Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Thunb.) Makino, together with two known compounds, (20S,24S)-3β,20,21β,23β,25-pentahydroxy-21,24-cyclodammarane (2) and (23S)-3β-hydroxydammar-20,24-dien-21-oic acid 21,23-lactone (3). Its structural elucidations were accomplished mainly on the basis of the interpretation of spectroscopic data, such as IR, HR-TOF-MS, and NMR.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to perform an updated systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the clinical efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness of negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs).

Methods: We searched the Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Ovid, and Chinese Biological Medicine databases up to June 30, 2016. We also manually searched the articles from reference lists of the retrieved articles, which used the NPWT system in studies of vacuum-assisted closure therapy.
