Objectives: To investigate the correlation between blood glucose fluctuation parameters and other clinical data with chronic pain in older patients ( ≧ 60 years) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), as well as evaluating the predictive value of risk of these parameters for chronic pain.
Methods: Clinical data were collected from 60 older patients with T2DM undergoing chronic pain who were hospitalized in the Department of Geriatric Endocrinology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University. Pain scores using the numeric rating scale (NRS) were administered to all study participants by a dedicated person.
Background: Diabesity, a co-occurrence of diabetes and obesity, is a growing public health concern globally. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a surrogate marker of insulin resistance, has been associated with various metabolic disorders. This study aimed to investigate the association between TyG index and new-onset diabesity in a national longitudinal study.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFerroptosis, a regulated form of cell death distinct from apoptosis, was first identified in 2012 and is characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation driven by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Since its discovery, ferroptosis has been linked to various diseases, with recent studies highlighting its potential in cancer therapy, particularly for targeting cancer cells that are resistant to traditional treatments like chemotherapy and radiotherapy. While iron has historically been central to ferroptosis, emerging evidence indicates that non-ferrous ions, especially manganese (Mn), also play a crucial role in modulating this process.

The current study aimed to systematically examine the incidence of bovine piroplasmosis in Kashgar, Xinjiang, to provide baseline data for the effective prevention and control of this disease among bovines in the region. A total of 1403 bovine blood samples from 12 sampling points were screened via PCR with universal Piroplasma primers targeting the 18S rRNA locus and specific Theileria annulata primers targeting the cytochrome b (COB) gene.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of patients who underwent surgery for unilateral isolated sphenoid sinusitis between June 2020 and May 2023. Data collected included variables such as gender, age, side of the specimen, symptoms, sinus computed tomography findings, pathological results, and complications.
Aims: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is prevalent worldwide, often manageable through lifestyle changes like physical activity. This meta-analysis aimed to determine the effect of resistance training (RT) on cardiovascular risk factors in adults with T2DM.
Methods: Four databases were searched up to March 2024.

Visually impaired individuals frequently encounter difficulties in detecting and avoiding obstacles in the wild. To address this issue, we propose an obstacle detection method for visual navigation assistance, named YOLO-OD. To improve the ability to detect and differentiate between different sized obstacles in outdoor environments, we introduce the Feature Weighting Block (FWB), which improves feature importance discrimination.

To fill the gap, this study aims to characterise sexual dissatisfaction among people aged 50years or older from a nationwide, population-representative sample and to explore its association with physical, mental, and self-reported overall health indicators. Methods Data were collected as part of the China Family Panel Studies in 2020, led by the Institute of Social Science Survey of Peking University.

However, the immunomodulatory processes that occur during interactions between and its definitive host remain unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate gene transcription patterns in canine small intestinal epithelial cells (CIECs) following stimulation by protoscoleces (PSCs).

Methods: In this retrospective study, clinical data was analyzed from 262 PE parturients who were treated in Xi'an High-Tech Hospital from January 2022 to February 2024. They were divided into the experimental group (138 cases) and the control group (124 cases) based on the treatment plan.
Although immune checkpoint inhibitors have illustrated strong benefits in patient survival and have been widely acknowledged in treating lung cancer, they may be subject to increased risk of immune-related adverse effects (irAEs). Although existing literature have studied the mechanisms of irAEs of immunotherapy, it is difficult to quantify such effect, especially at a large-scale real-world population level. In this paper, the autoimmune-related risk of multiple immune checkpoint inhibitors is compared with that of chemotherapy based on Medicaid and CHIP TAF (T-MSIS Analytic File) data of over 100,000 patient samples from 2012 to 2018.

Prior research has indicated that adults sometimes fail to utilize internal and external cognitive resources judiciously, resulting in cognitive offloading bias, which is often linked to metacognition. However, it remains experimentally unverified whether primary and secondary school students exhibit cognitive offloading bias and how this relates to metacognition.

Herein, we report a simple but effective way to constructing high-performance OPH preparations based on the in situ encapsulation of hexahistidine-tagged OPH (H-OPH) into cobaltous zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) via biomineralization. ZIF-8 made of the same organic ligand but a different metal ion (Zn) was used for comparison.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a well-recognized endocrine-disrupting chemical that poses risks to both human health and the environment. Laccase can effectively biodegrade bisphenol A, but the low environmental temperature (∼25 °C) restricts the biodegradation efficiency. In this study, the enzyme laccase and FeO with solar-thermal conversion capability were coimmobilized into zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (Lac@ZIF-8-FeO) to facilitate efficient biodegradation of bisphenol A under simulated solar irradiation.
