Currently, treatment with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) is still the first choice for epileptic patients, while monitoring their blood concentrations is undoubtedly beneficial for minimizing their adverse side effects and optimizing their therapeutic effects. In this study, an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry with polarity switching was developed and validated for simultaneous determination of 14 AEDs and 2 active metabolites in human serum. Olanzapine was selected as the internal standard.

Background: China faces the highest burden of latent multidrug-resistant or rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB). We aim to evaluate the health and economic impacts of Vaccae (a novel TB vaccine) and enhanced drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) management strategies.

Methods: Using a compartmental model calibrated with national TB data, we evaluated nine interventions from 2025-2050: enhanced DR-TB management (S1); Vaccae vaccination for those with Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection targeting specific age groups (S2: adolescents, S3: adolescents and young adults, S4: working-age adults, S5: elderly); and combined strategies (S6: S2+S1, S7: S3+S1, S8: S4+S1, S9: S5+S1).

This study used a calibrated mathematical model to evaluate age-specific tuberculosis (TB) vaccination strategies, for drug-resistant (DR)-TB management in China. Prioritizing elderly vaccination significantly reduced multidrug-resistant or rifampicin-resistant TB incidence and mortality, while avoiding the need for second-line treatment, offering a promising approach to mitigate DR-TB burden by 2050.

Article Synopsis
  • * A total of 4922 strains were examined, revealing that 384 (7.8%) were H-R, with genetic mutations identified in many strains, including the Ser315Thr substitution and the -15C>T mutation, which are associated with varying levels of isoniazid resistance.
  • * The results showed that ser315Thr was the most common mutation, with significant resistance rates to other drugs like streptomycin, but minimal resistance to amikacin; the study suggests

An innovative molecularly imprinted polymer membrane (MIPM) was prepared with polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) as the support, phenytoin (PHT) as the single template, methacrylic acid as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linking reagent, azobisisobutyronitrile as the initiator, and acetonitrile-dimethylformamide (1 : 1.5, v/v) as the porogen. These materials were characterized scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) presents a landscape of intricate molecular dynamics. In this study, we focused on the role of the leukotriene B4 receptor (LTB4R) in CRC, exploring its significance in the disease's progression and potential therapeutic approaches. Using bioinformatics analysis of the GSE164191 and the Cancer Genome Atlas-colorectal adenocarcinoma (TCGA-COAD) datasets, we identified LTB4R as a hub gene influencing CRC prognosis.

Objective: This study aims to estimate the cost-effectiveness of the combined chemotherapy regimen containing Bedaquiline (BR) and the conventional treatment regimen (CR, not containing Bedaquiline) for the treatment of adults with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in China.

Methods: A combination of a decision tree and a Markov model was developed to estimate the cost and effects of MDR patients in BR and CR within ten years. The model parameter data were synthesized from the literature, the national TB surveillance information system, and consultation with experts.

Objective: To evaluate the trend of notified incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) in China at different periods by population and region and to explore the effect of TB prevention and control in recent years.

Methods: Using pooled data on TB cases reported by the TB Information Management Reporting System (TBIMS) from 2005 to 2020, we calculated the annual percentage change (APC) using the Joinpoint regression model.

Results: From 2005 to 2020, a total of 16.

Immunoassays are currently not available in commercial kits for the quantification of valproic acid, vigabatrin, pregabalin, and gabapentin, which also cannot suffer the limitations of interferences of substances with similar structures. Chromatography is a good alternative to immunoassay. In this study, a simple and robust non-derivatization gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method for simultaneous determination of the above four drugs in human plasma was developed and validated for therapeutic drug monitoring purposes.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) poses a severe public health challenge in China and worldwide. This study evaluated the effects of age, period, and birth cohort on reported incidence trends of TB based on population and refined the characteristics of high-risk groups.

Methods: Aggregate data that reported pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) cases from China Tuberculosis Management Information System (TBIMS) from 2006 to 2020 were used to analyze effect coefficients through the age-period-cohort (APC) model based on intrinsic estimator (IE) method, and converted them into relative risk (RR) to estimate trends.

A dual-template magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (Dt-MMIP) with a specific recognition capability for carbamazepine (CBZ) and lamotrigine (LTG) was synthesized using methacrylic acid as a functional monomer, and ethylene glycol dimethylmethacrylate as a cross-linking agent. A magnetic non-molecularly imprinted polymer without templates (MNIP) was also prepared using the same procedure. The prepared polymers were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and adsorption experiments.

Mulberry leaves exhibit anti-lipogenic and lipid-lowering effects. However, the lipid biomarkers and underlying mechanisms for the improvement of the action of mulberry leaves on obesity and lipid metabolism disorders have not been sufficiently investigated yet. Herein, biochemical analysis combined with metabolomics targeting serum lipid mediators (oxylipins) were used to explore the efficacy and underlying mechanisms of mulberry leaf water extract (MLWE) in high-fat and high-sucrose diet (HFHSD)-fed mice.

Background: Obesity is a worldwide problem that resulted from the excessive fat accumulation in adipose tissue, leading to the impairment of individual health. Mulberry leaf is an important traditional Chinese medicine and has been used to alleviate obesity for a long term. However, its underlying molecular mechanisms have not been fully elucidated yet.

Gut microbiota plays a key role in the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). Mulberry leaf has a hypoglycemic effect, but the potential mechanism is not fully understood. This study aimed to explore the influences and potential mechanisms of mulberry leaf water extract (MLWE) intervention on mice with T2D induced through a high-fat and high-sucrose diet combined with streptozotocin by the combination of fecal metabolomics and gut microbiota analysis.

We designed this study to determine the trend of moxifloxacin resistance among multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patients from 2007 to 2013 in China to inform the composition of multidrug-resistant/rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB) treatment regimens. We assessed moxifloxacin resistance among MDR-TB isolates collected in national drug resistance surveys in 2007 and 2013 that included 3,634 smear-positive and 7,206 culture-positive pulmonary tuberculosis patients, respectively. Moxifloxacin susceptibility was examined by a Mycobacterium growth indicator tube (MGIT) 960 for the 2007 isolates, and by the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) method for the 2013 isolates, at both breakpoints 0.
