Plants rely on systemic signalling mechanisms to establish whole-body defence in response to insect and nematode attacks. GLUTAMATE RECEPTOR-LIKE (GLR) genes have been implicated in long-distance transmission of wound signals to initiate the accumulation of the defence hormone jasmonate (JA) at undamaged distal sites. To better understand the heterogeneous anisotropic nanocomposite features and provide reliable underlying constitutive parameters of carbon fiber for continuum-level simulations, hierarchical modeling approaches combining quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, numerical and analytical micromechanics are employed for studying the structure-performance relationships of the precursor-inherited sheath-core carbon fiber layers. A robust debonding force field is derived from energy matching protocols, including bond dissociation enthalpy calculations and rigid-constraint potential energy surface scan. Logistic long range bond stretching curves with exponential parameters and shifted force vdW curves are designed to diminish energy perturbations.

This study investigated functional bacteria, key enzymes, and nitrogen metabolism in vertical flow constructed wetlands (CWs) after exposing to silver, silver sulfide nanoparticles (Ag NPs and AgS NPs), and silver iron (Ag), and silver spatial distribution in CWs for 155 days. Ag NPs and AgS NPs affected species richness and diversity whereas Ag showed the higher the species diversity indices. Sequencing analysis exhibited that Ag NPs or Ag significantly inhibited nitrogen metabolic process by hindering the relative activity of functional enzymes, downregulating relative abundances of nrfA, norB and napA for Ag NPs, nxrA gene for Ag, while AgS NPs inhibited relative abundance of nirA.

To better understand the chemistry behind the carbonization process of the polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based precursor fibers and provide a more authentic virtual counterpart of the process-inherited model for process optimization and rational performance design, we develop arrow-pushing reaction routes for primary exhaust gas product (HO/H/HCN/N/tar vapor) formation and a pragmatic kinetics-driven accelerated reaction template for atomistic simulation of the carbonization process overcoming traditional challenges in time scale discrepancy of the reaction-diffusion system. The results of enthalpy barriers from hybrid first principles calculations validate the rationality and sequence of conjectured reactions during the two-stage carbonization process. Conversion rates of the rate-determining steps under 300 s carbonization are also estimated based on Eyring's transition state theory realizing kinetics equivalency of the reaction extent.

To provide a basis for further optimization of the polio sequential immunization schedule, this study evaluated the effectiveness of booster immunization with one dose of bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (bOPV) at 48 months of age after different primary polio immunization schedules. At 48 months of age, one dose of bOPV was administered, and their poliovirus types 1-3 (PV1, PV2, and PV3, respectively)-specific neutralizing antibody levels were determined. Participants found to be negative for any type of PV-specific neutralizing antibody at 24, 36, or 48 months of age were re-vaccinated with inactivated polio vaccine (IPV).

Microtubules play critical roles during the cell cycle progression in the plant cell. Understanding the regional propensity differences of atherosclerosis (AS) development is hindered by the lack of animal models suitable for the study of the disease process. In this paper, we used 3S-ASCVD dogs, an ideal large animal human-like models for AS, to interrogate the heterogeneity of AS-prone and AS-resistant arteries; and at the single-cell level, identify the dominant cells involved in AS development. Here we present data from 3S-ASCVD dogs which reliably mimic human AS pathophysiology, predilection for lesion sites, and endpoint events.
