In this study, ex-situ catalytic pyrolysis of oxygen-containing polycarbonate (PC) was conducted to prepare carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and H-rich syngas. This study examined the influence of the active metal components (Ni and Fe), catalyst pre-reduction, and pre-deoxygenation of pyrolysis volatiles on the catalytic performance and mechanism. Results show that the reductive constituents in pyrolysis volatiles make it difficult to reduce the Fe oxides, thus hindering the CNTs growth on Fe catalysts, compared to Ni catalysts.

Biomass wastes (BW) can be used to produce value-added products by multiple energy recovery technologies. However, the actual conversion results are unsatisfactory since heterogeneous feedstocks mixture with different characteristics are hard to optimally recovered in the same fine conversion process. This paper aimed to develop a new method to improve the energy conversion efficiencies, which focused on the rational matching of BW characteristics and demand for highly efficient energy recovery.

Article Synopsis
  • Ferroptosis is a unique type of programmed cell death that differs in both its structure and chemical processes from other forms like apoptosis and autophagy, involving distinct changes in mitochondria and an increase in lipid peroxidation.
  • * Both Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) and Herpes simplex virus (HSV) can trigger ferroptosis, primarily through disrupting the GSH-GPX4 system and activating specific biochemical pathways.
  • * The review suggests a significant link between endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and ferroptosis, proposing that prolonged ER stress could be essential for the development of ferroptosis in conditions caused by JEV and HSV.

Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) for the recovery of phosphorus (P) from biomass wastes has attracted considerable attention, while migration of P to the liquid phase greatly weakened P recovery efficiency and elevated the environmental risk. Therefore, a systematic scheme was proposed in this work to accomplish the complete reclamation of P from wetland plant (Ceratophyllum demersum) through coupling liquid-recirculated HTC mediated by HO or HSO with precipitation, and the migration and speciation of P during this process was determined by P K-edge X-ray absorption near edge structure, P nuclear magnetic resonance, and the modified sequential extraction. The P concentration in the liquid phase increased with the recirculation of HTC process water, and reached up to 550.

Oily sludge (OS) is a kind of hazardous waste generated from the petrochemical industry. Currently, pyrolysis has been widely applied for OS disposal, while low-oil content (<5 wt%) OS still lacks novel technology to achieve efficient resource utilization and harmful substances immobilization. In this study, a kind of OS-based geopolymer was developed by OS and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS).

Membrane filtration is a mainstream method for landfill leachate treatment, leaving the landfill leachate membrane concentrates (LLMCs) a high-toxicity residue. Conventional LLMCs disposal technology shows specific challenges due to the low biodegradability, high inorganic salts, and high heavy metal ions content of LLMCs. Therefore, it is necessary to degrade LLMCs with a more suitable technology.

Article Synopsis
  • The study highlights a significant increase in post-consumer waste (PCW) due to the rise of photopolymerization-based 3D printing, raising environmental concerns about its disposal.
  • Analyzing the combustion products of PCW when incinerated with municipal solid waste (MSW) revealed higher levels of harmful compounds, such as fluorene and triphenylene, compared to regular plastic.
  • Incineration of PCW with different materials (like rubber, textiles, and paper) produces varying amounts of toxic byproducts, with the combination of PCW and wood yielding the least pollution, emphasizing the need for better waste management strategies.

() is a leading cause of bacteremia and blood stream infections. Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) that first appeared in 1961 often caused hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) and community-acquired infections (CAIs) and was associated with high mortality rate. Accurate and rapid point-of-care testing (POCT) of MRSA is crucial for clinical management and treatment of MRSA infections, as well as the prevention and control of HAIs and CAIs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study highlights the issue of varied pyrolytic parameters in municipal solid waste (MSW), which negatively affects its conversion to energy.
  • Researchers analyzed 130 MSW samples and developed a new sorting strategy based on kinetic parameters to improve pyrolytic homogeneity, introducing a performance index called C.
  • The results indicated that this new sorting method was more effective than traditional approaches, with k-means clustering showing superior performance due to its flexibility; future work will focus on expanding data sets and enhancing modeling frameworks.

Biochar is a promising sorbent for Cd removal from water, while the disposal of the exhausted Cd-enriched biochar remains a challenge. In this study, pyrolysis was employed to treat the exhausted biochar under N and CO atmospheres at 600-900 °C, and the fate of Cd during pyrolysis and characteristics of high-valued products were determined. The results indicated that higher temperature and CO atmosphere favored the volatilization of Cd.

Although cellular metabolic states have been shown to modulate bacterial susceptibility to antibiotics, the interaction between glutamate (Glu) and chloramphenicol (CAP) resistance remains unclear because of the specificity of antibiotics and bacteria. We found that the level of Glu was upregulated in the CAP-resistant strain of according to a comparative metabolomics approach based on LC-MS/MS. Furthermore, we verified that exogenous metabolites related to Glu, the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, and glutathione (GSH) metabolism could promote CAP resistance in survival assays.

Background: The mortality rate from septic shock in patients with hematological malignancies (HMs) remains significantly higher than that in patients without HMs. A longer resuscitation time would definitely be harmful because of the irreversibly immunocompromised status of the patients. Shortening the resuscitation time through continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) with oXiris would be an attractive strategy in managing such patients.
