Article Synopsis
  • - The paper introduces a budget-friendly electronic system designed to estimate ground reaction forces (GRF) during walking by utilizing a master node and two slave nodes connected to insole sensors placed in participants' shoes.
  • - The system employs 14 piezo-resistive sensors in each insole to collect data, which is then transmitted to a PC via USB after the walking session is completed, allowing for easy data retrieval through Wi-Fi.
  • - Validation against force platforms shows promising accuracy in dynamic situations, and future improvements will leverage machine learning models to enhance estimation precision.

Energy efficiency is an issue that is currently gaining relevance, high electricity demands worldwide generate a negative impact on the planet caused by the natural depletion of resources associated with production processes. In this regard, the technologies associated with the Internet of Things (IoT) are considered as a tool to optimize processes and resources through the monitoring of variables. In this context, this work proposes a low-cost electronic system with IoT architecture used in the monitoring of electrical variables, this becomes a support tool in the estimation of energy consumption in internal distribution electrical circuits of homes or small industries.

This paper proposes a low-cost portable electronic system for estimating step width during the human gait cycle. This device, intended to support the Walking Stance item of the fall risk assessment test Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment (POMA), contains three electronic boards, comprising two sensing nodes and a concentrator. Each sensing node contains a force sensitive resistor (FSR) and time-of-flight camera (TOF).
