Compton scattering provides invaluable information on the underlying Fermi surface (FS) and is a powerful tool complementary to angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and quantum oscillation measurements. Here we perform high-resolution Compton scattering measurements for LaSrCuO with x = 0.08 (T = 20 K) at 300 K and 150 K, and image the momentum distribution function in the two-dimensional Brillouin zone.

Sphingosine Kinase-2 (Sphk2) is responsible for the production of the bioactive lipid Sphingosine-1 Phosphate, a key regulator of tissue repair. Here we address the in vivo significance of Sphingosine Kinase -2 in renal inflammation/fibrosis in response to unilateral ureteral obstruction using both genetic and pharmacological strategies. Obstructed kidneys of Sphk2-/- mice showed reduced renal damage and diminished levels of the renal injury markers TGFβ1 and αSMA when compared to wild type controls.

We show that a Fermi surface reconstruction due to spiral antiferromagnetic order may explain the rapid change in the Hall number as recently observed near optimal doping in cuprate superconductors [Badoux et al., Nature (London) 531, 210 (2016)]. The single-particle spectral function in the spiral state exhibits hole pockets which look like Fermi arcs due to a strong momentum dependence of the spectral weight.

We analyze the competition of magnetism and superconductivity in the two-dimensional Hubbard model with a moderate interaction strength, including the possibility of incommensurate spiral magnetic order. Using an unbiased renormalization group approach, we compute magnetic and superconducting order parameters in the ground state. In addition to previously established regions of Néel order coexisting with d-wave superconductivity, the calculations reveal further coexistence regions where superconductivity is accompanied by incommensurate magnetic order.

The aim of the present study was to measure and compare the effectiveness of nursing triage before and after introduction of the Japanese Triage and Acuity Scale (JTAS), the Japanese version of the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS), during emergency treatment. Surveys of triage nurses and emergency physicians were conducted before and after JTAS introduction. Respondents were triage nurses (before 112 cases, after 94 cases), emergency physicians (before 50, after 41), and triaged patients (before 1057, after 1025) from seven separate emergency medical facilities.

We analyze how thermal fluctuations near a finite temperature nematic phase transition affect the spectral function A(k,ω) for single-electron excitations in a two-dimensional metal. Perturbation theory yields a splitting of the quasiparticle peak with a d-wave form factor, reminiscent of a pseudogap. We present a resummation of contributions to all orders in the Gaussian fluctuation regime.

Renal insufficiency occurs in a considerable proportion of patients with sickle cell disease. Common advanced glomerular lesions include focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and nonimmune membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis. We derive renormalization group equations which allow us to treat order parameter fluctuations near quantum phase transitions in cases where an expansion in powers of the order parameter is not possible. As a prototypical application, we analyze the nematic transition driven by a d-wave Pomeranchuk instability in a two-dimensional electron system. We find that order parameter fluctuations suppress the first order character of the nematic transition obtained at low temperatures in mean-field theory, so that a continuous transition leading to quantum criticality can emerge.
