Background: Oral mucositis is a clinically significant adverse event linked to cancer therapy; it reduces the quality of life of patients and may result in the discontinuation of treatment and a poorer prognosis. Based on level 3 evidence, the Mucositis Study Group of Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer and the International Society of Oral Oncology recommend oral care for all patients receiving cancer chemotherapy and radiotherapy, although no data from large-scaled randomized controlled trials support the efficacy of oral care in preventing oral mucositis. Therefore, this randomized, controlled, multicenter, open-label, phase III study sought to determine whether professional oral care reduces oral mucositis in everolimus and exemestane-treated estrogen receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer patients.

From late 2018 to 2019, equine influenza virus (EIV) strains of Florida sublineage clade 1 (Fc1), which had until then been circulating mainly in the United States, suddenly spread across Europe causing many outbreaks, and Florida sublineage clade 2 (Fc2) strains, which had been circulating mainly in Europe, have not been detected in Europe since 2018. Since 2010, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has recommended that EIV vaccines contain an Fc1 strain that is like A/equine/South Africa/4/2003 or A/equine/Ohio/2003. Accordingly, Japanese vaccines contain A/equine/Ibaraki/1/2007 as the Fc1 strain.

Analytical information obtained from clinical tissue samples has recently become more important due to recent advancements in the clinical practice of medicine, for example, gene panel testing. However, acquiring and managing the sample quality, which greatly influences the analyses, are not sufficient and hence requires immediate attention. We introduced time stamp (TS) recording and documentation using the Standard PREanalytical Code (SPREC) for breast cancer surgery samples to monitor and control their quality.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how effective eribulin-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy is for treating patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC).
  • In the trial, patients were divided into two main groups based on specific genetic factors and received different chemotherapy regimens, with the effectiveness measured by the pathologic complete response (pCR) rate and safety outcomes.
  • Results indicated a higher pCR rate in younger patients with certain genetic profiles, and while neurotoxicity was a concern, it was less prevalent in the eribulin-based treatment compared to other regimens.
