Effect of 360 degrees and 180 degrees rotation SPET acquisitions on myocardial polar map: comparison of 201Tl-, 99Tcm- and 123I-labelled radiopharmaceuticals.

Both 360 degrees and 180 degrees rotation acquisition methods have been used in myocardial single photon emission tomography (SPET) studies. We compared both methods using 201Tl, 99Tcm and 123I radiopharmaceuticals with phantoms and clinical models. Myocardial phantom studies with anterior and inferior defects were performed using 201Tl, 99Tcm and 123I.

Rhenium-186-mercaptoacetyltriglycine-labeled monoclonal antibody for radioimmunotherapy: in vitro assessment, in vivo kinetics and dosimetry in tumor-bearing nude mice.

Stability and immunoreactivity of 186Re-labeled monoclonal antibody were examined, and its in vivo kinetics was investigated in tumor-bearing Balb/c nu/nu female mice to assess the feasibility of using it in radioimmunotherapy (RIT). [Simple kinetic analysis of 99mTc-GSA by direct integral linear least square regression method: calculation of hepatic blood flow and receptor index based on three-compartment model].

To obtain both hepatic blood flow and an index of asialoglycoprotein receptor amount by simple calculation in the asialoglycoprotein receptor imaging with 99mTc-DTPA-Galactosyl Human Serum Albumin (99mTc-GSA), we have tested the applicability of the direct integral linear least square regression (DILS) method based on a linear 3-compartment model (Bronqvist, 1984) to the kinetic analysis of 99mTc-GSA scintigraphy. DILS method can provide hepatic blood flow (k1) and the product of receptor amount and forward binding rate constant (k1k3/k2) as a receptor index, without requiring iterative calculation and initial estimates of the parameters. To compare DILS method with nonlinear least square regression (NLS) method as a standard, data from 35 patients with liver dysfunction were analyzed by both methods.

Prediction of prognosis in peripheral facial nerve paralysis using submandibular gland scintigraphy.

Unlabelled: In this study, we evaluated the ability of submandibular gland scintigraphy to predict the prognosis of peripheral facial nerve paralysis.

Methods: Submandibular gland scintigraphy was performed in 78 patients with acute peripheral facial nerve paralysis. After injection of 180-370 MBq [99mTc]pertechnetate, serial 1-min images were acquired for 25 min.

Discordant splenic uptake of Tc-99m colloid and Tc-99m denatured RBC in candidiasis-endocrinopathy syndrome.

We report discordant splenic uptake of Tc-99m colloid and Tc-99m heat-denatured red blood cells (RBC) which occurred in a 21-year-old female with candidiasis-endocrinopathy syndrome. Tc-99m colloid liver-spleen imaging showed no splenic uptake, suggesting the presence of functional asplenia. A subsequent Tc-99m heat-denatured RBC study clearly revealed a small spleen with preserved sequestrating function.

[Clinical significance of 123I-MIBG myocardial scintigraphy in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy].

We studied the abnormality of myocardial sympathetic nervous system in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy using 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) myocardial scintigraphy in comparison with the parameters of other clinical examinations. In 50 patients with HCM, the heart to mediastinum 123I-MIBG uptake ratio (H/M) was significantly low and washout rate (WR) of 123I-MIBG was significantly high respectively compared with normal subjects (n = 8). H/M was negatively correlated with serum norepinephrine level, wall thickness of left ventricle, left ventricular mass index, left ventricular end diastolic pressure respectively, and WR was positively correlated with those parameters respectively.

Molecular targeting of mitomycin C chemotherapy.

In 10 human cancer cell lines, the activity of mitomycin C (MMC) was found to be determined by an interplay between activation by DT-diaphorase (DTD) and inactivation by glutathione S-transferase (GST). NADPH/cytochrome P-450 reductase was not responsible for MMC activation and expression of MDRI (Mr 170,000 P-glycoprotein), and MRP (multidrug resistance-associated protein) genes did not relate to MMC resistance. Gene expression analysis for NQO1 (DTD gene) and GSTpi predicted which enzyme activity predominated in a cell line, except K562 and K562/DOX.

Estimation of the prevalence of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus in a rural area of Japan.

The objective of this paper is to describe a method of estimating the prevalence of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) in a community. We first counted subjects with previously diagnosed NIDDM and those newly diagnosed by use of the 75-gram oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). We then used the OGTT data to predict the prevalence of NIDDM at different levels of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) among the subjects who did not undergo the OGTT.

[Influence of smoking on medical care expense of middle-aged workers].

[Pharmacokinetics of 99mTc-MAG3 and 131I-OIH: comparative study based on 2 compartment model analysis].

We studied 50 patients with mild to moderate renal dysfunction to compare pharmacokinetics of 99mTc-MAG3 with that of 131I-OIH. After simultaneous bolus injection of both 99mTc-MAG3 and 131I-OIH, 8-point venous blood sampling was performed from 2 to 44 min post injection. Aliquoted plasma samples were counted for radioactivity along with the injected standard to obtain % injected dose/ml plasma for each tracer.

[Characteristics of medical institutions visited by patients with 26 intractable diseases who are residents of Saitama Prefecture (comparison of the data for 1984 and 1988)].

To obtain basic data concerning the availability of medical care for intractable diseases in a large city and its environs, we analyzed the data of Saitama Prefecture. These data were selected from a nationwide survey conducted by the Epidemiology of Intractable Diseases Research Committee of the Ministry of Health and Welfare in Japan. The characteristics of medical institutions visited by patients with 26 intractable diseases were analyzed.

A study designed to analyze the relationship between blood pressure and insulin resistance was conducted on 353 subjects who received medical health examinations, and who did not have obvious diabetes. Fasting plasma insulin (IRI), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), body mass index (BMI), waist hip ratio (WHR), body fat percentage, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride, and urine sodium concentrations were measured or calculated. After analysis of the correlation's between each value, multiple regression analyses were performed.

Effect of social factors on metabolic improvement in type II diabetic patients.

Psychological and social factors can profoundly influence a patient's success in adhering to a prescribed self-care regimen. A total of 34 inpatients with type II diabetes who attended the diabetes education program at a single clinic were studied as a retrospective cohort, beginning between 6 and 12 months after discharge. At the start of the study, the patients were classified into two groups, those with good control and those with poor control of diabetes, based on the rate of change of the glycosylated hemoglobin (HbAlc) value relative to the value at admission.

The role of a clinically based computer department of instruction in a school of medicine.

The evolution of activities and educational directions of a department of instruction in medical computer technology in a school of medicine are reviewed. During the 18 years covered, the society at large has undergone marked change in availability and use of computation in every aspect of medical care. It is argued that a department of instruction should be clinical and develop revenue sources based on patient care, perform technical services for the institution with a decentralized structure, and perform both health services and scientific research.
