Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between preoperative patient factors and postoperative half-year health care utilization reflecting recovery, common complications, comorbidities, and significant health concerns, identifying strong risk and protective factors.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study utilized linear, quantile, and ordinal regressions to analyze Osaka National Health Insurance data from 26 606 elderly patients who underwent hip fracture surgery between 2012 and 2018.
Results: The key factors associated with multiple postoperative care utilizations (P < 0.
Background: Pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma (PACC) is a rare subtype of pancreatic cancer and the clinicopathological behavior of PACC is not yet fully understood. PACC rarely invades the main pancreatic duct (MPD), which causes intraductal growth. Thus, herein, we have reported a rare case of PACC that invaded the MPD and disseminated to the branches of the pancreatic duct (BDs) without exhibiting any continuity with the main tumor.

However, given the parallel fiber orientation in the distal tendinous structure of the triceps brachii, the mechanism behind this anti-valgus force remains unclear. In the present study, we aimed to examine the anatomy of the distal tendinous structure of the triceps brachii using bony morphological, macroscopic, and histological methods.

Maintaining cfDNA concentrations is vital for immune homeostasis and preventing inflammatory responses. Understanding cfDNA release and clearance is essential for using cfDNA as a biomarker in clinical diagnostics.

Dyneins are classified into three major subfamilies, namely cytoplasmic, intraflagellar-transport (IFT), and ciliary dyneins, based on their intracellular localization and functions. Recently, several near-atomic resolution structures have been reported for cytoplasmic/IFT dyneins.

Methods: CT studies performed over one-year period with a multidose injector at our emergency CT unit.
Background: A histologically involved surgical margin (R1) is often observed after resection for cholangiocarcinoma. Compared with a negative margin (R0), R1 with invasive carcinoma (R1inv) markedly worsens survival, whereas the prognostic effect of R1 with carcinoma in situ (R1cis) remains controversial.
Methods: Patients who underwent resection for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma between 2002 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed.
Introduction Evidence-based medicine (EBM) competency is crucial for healthcare professionals; however, validated tools to assess EBM skills in Japanese are scarce. This study aimed to develop and validate a Japanese version of the Assessing Competency in EBM (ACE) tool. Methods We translated the ACE tool into Japanese, following international standards, and distributed it online to 99 healthcare professionals and students.

Although various risk factors for poor outcomes in patients with COVID-19 have been identified, clinical and treatment factors associated with fungal infections in patients with severe COVID-19 remain unclear. This study aimed to elucidate clinical factors associated with fungal infections during severe COVID-19 treatment.

Objectives: Mesenteric malperfusion in acute aortic dissection remains a life-threatening complication with no standardized treatment strategy. This study aimed to describe and evaluate the outcomes of our integrated approach combining exploratory laparotomy, immediate mesenteric reperfusion, and central aortic repair.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients with acute aortic dissection with a preoperative diagnosis of mesenteric malperfusion who were treated between August 2011 and November 2022.
Background: Hyperperfusion syndrome (HPS) is one of the most serious complications after carotid artery stenting (CAS). Arterial spin labeling (ASL) is a noninvasive method for assessing cerebral perfusion. This study aimed to evaluate the utility of ASL compared to that of SPECT in evaluating changes in intracranial blood flow during the perioperative period of CAS.

While these studies demonstrated the significance of disease-phenotype associations, there is a pressing need to fully characterize the functional relevance of disease-associated genetic variants. Functional genetic loci can affect transcriptional and post-transcriptional phenotypes that may contribute to disease pathology.

While BM niches are often considered similar across different skeletal sites, we discovered that the alveolar BM (al-BM) in the mandible harbors the highest frequency of immunophenotypic HSCs in nine different skeletal sites. Transplantation assays revealed significantly increased engraftment from al-BM compared to femur, tibia, or pelvis BM, likely due to a higher proportion of alveolar HSCs.

However, the physiological roles of its human homologue MRGPRX2 remain unclear. Here we aimed to elucidate the mechanisms by which MRGPRX2 regulates vascular permeability, and generated MRGPRX2 knock-in (MRGPRX2-KI) and Mrgprb2 knockout (Mrgprb2-KO) mice.

Although removable dentures have been used to improve masticatory function, the long-term effects of denture conditions on mortality are unclear.
Purpose: The purpose of this clinical study was to clarify the association between removable denture condition and the mortality rate in older adults with reduced occlusal support.
Background: Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition requiring long-term care. However, many psoriasis patients may not regularly receive care. Several factors affect access to care in the United States, including health insurance status.

Objective: In this study, we approached the contribution of the intrinsic oxytocin-oxytocin receptor (OXTR) system to OSA by genetic association analysis.
Unlabelled: Motile flagella (also called "motile cilia") play a variety of important roles in lower and higher eukaryotes, including cellular motility and fertility. Flagellar motility is driven by several species of the gigantic motor-protein complexes, flagellar dyneins, that reside within these organelles. Among the flagellar-dynein species, a hetero-dimeric dynein called "IDA f/I1" has been shown to be particularly important in controlling the flagellar waveform, and defects in this dynein species in humans cause ciliopathies such as multiple morphological abnormalities of the flagella and asthenoteratozoospermia.
