Microplastics (MPs), as the crucial environmental pollutants, can be easily transported into the human body and accumulate in the liver. However, current studies mainly focus on acute exposure to MPs, investigations on long-term interactions with MPs alone remain limited. Thereby, we examined noxious properties of MPs and selected the most common polystyrene (PS) MPs as the research object, including unmodified PS MPs (PS-MPs) and positive-charged PS MPs (PS-NH) at 10 mg/L employing oral drinking water methods in mice for six consecutive months in vivo.

Melatonin (Mel) serves as the central regulator for maintaining circadian rhythms and plays a crucial role not only in controlling the rhythmic clock, but also in several functional domains such as immunomodulation and anti-inflammation. In this study, we explored the clinical relevance of Mel and rheumatoid arthritis comorbid with interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD), and its potential therapeutic effects on arthropathy and pulmonary fibrosis (PF) in mice with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA). The results demonstrated that low serum levels of Mel were correlated with disease activity and severity of PF in RA-ILD patients.

Potamanthidae belongs to the superfamily Ephemeroidea but has no complete mt genome released in the NCBI (except for two unchecked and one partial mt genome). Since the sister clade to Potamanthidae has always been controversial, we sequenced seven mt genomes of Potamanthidae (two species from and five species from ) in order to rebuild the phylogenetic relationships of Potamanthidae in this study. Introduction: Neuregulin-1 (NRG-1) appears to play a role in the pathogenesis of several neuropsychiatric disorders, including epilepsy. We conducted a study to investigate the effect of anti-seizure medication on NRG-1 mRNA and NRG-1 protein levels in patients with first-episode focal epilepsy.

Methods: The levels of NRG-1 mRNA isoforms (type I, II, III, and IV) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of 39 healthy controls, 39 first-episode focal epilepsy patients before anti-seizure medication (ASM) therapy and four weeks after administration of ASM were measured by RT-qPCR, and the levels of NRG-1 protein in the serum of samples of each group were determined using ELISA.

Photocatalytic conversion of carbon dioxide into chemical fuels offers a promising way to not only settle growing environmental problems but also provide a renewable energy source. In this study, through first-principles calculation, we found that the Se vacancy introduction can lead to the transition of physical-to-chemical CO adsorption on Janus WSSe nanotube. Se vacancies work at the adsorption site, which significantly improves the amount of transferred electrons at the interface, resulting in the enhanced electron orbital hybridization between adsorbents and substrates, and promising the high activity and selectivity for carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CORR).

D129 is an EMS-induced mutant with dwarf phenotype, which has important breeding potential to cultivate new varieties suitable for high-density planting in maize Plant height is one of the important agronomic traits that affecting maize planting density, identification of superior dwarf mutants can provide important genetic materials for breeding new varieties suitable for high-density planting. In this study, we identified a dwarf mutant, d129, from maize EMS-induced mutant population. Gene mapping indicated that a G-to-A transition in the second exon of the br2 gene was responsible for the dwarf phenotype of the d129 mutant using MutMap method, which was further validated through allelism testing.

Objective: To investigate the expression of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs)-metabolites of intestinal flora-in gestational complications of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), preeclampsia (PE), and intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), and its clinical significance.

Methods: Targeted metabonomics was used to detect SCFAs in the serum of 28 GDM pregnant women, 28 PE pregnant women, 29 ICP pregnant women, and 27 healthy pregnant women (NP); their expression changes were observed; the correlation between SCFAs and clinical characteristics was studied; and their potential as biomarkers for clinical diagnosis was evaluated.

Results: There were significant differences in the SCFA metabolic spectrum between the GDM, PE, ICP, and NP groups.
