Background: Morbidities related to obesity are usually associated with its severity and duration. Yet, the onset of serious morbidities in early adulthood among otherwise healthy adolescents with obesity is understudied. We aimed to investigate the association between adolescent BMI and serious morbidities before age 25 years.

Background: The association between body mass index (BMI) and migraine in adults has been well established. However, studies in children and adolescents are inconclusive. We aimed to study the association between BMI and migraine using a national dataset that comprises the electronic medical records of more than two million adolescents.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers analyzed data from over 1.6 million adolescents and found that those with HSD/hEDS had a significantly higher prevalence of IBS (1.5%) compared to the control group (0.5%).
  • * The results highlight a strong association between HSD/hEDS and IBS, suggesting that increased clinical awareness could lead to better diagnosis and treatment, while also calling for further research into the underlying connections between these disorders.

Objective: To assess the association between hypermobility spectrum disorders/hypermobile type Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (HSD/hEDS) and migraine in a national sample of adolescents in Israel.

Background: The association between HSD/hEDS and migraine is unclear, even more so in pediatric populations.

Methods: This population-based, cross-sectional study included 1,627,345 Israeli adolescents (945,519/1,626,407 [58%] males; mean age 17 ± 0.

Background: Adult hypertension is a well-established risk factor for stroke in young adults (aged <55 years), and the effects are even more deleterious than at an older age. However, data are limited regarding the association between adolescent hypertension and the risk of stroke in young adulthood.

Methods: A nationwide, retrospective cohort study of adolescents (aged 16-19 years) who were medically evaluated before compulsory military service in Israel during 1985 to 2013.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how COVID-19 affected patients with autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIIRD) in Israel, particularly during different outbreaks and after vaccination.
  • The research showed that the first three COVID-19 outbreaks resulted in higher severity and mortality among AIIRD patients compared to the fourth outbreak, which came after vaccination started.
  • Ultimately, finding revealed that vaccination significantly reduced severe outcomes from COVID-19, while the disease did not notably worsen AIIRD conditions in the months following recovery.

Aims/hypothesis: Studies in children have reported an association between increased BMI and risk for developing type 1 diabetes, but evidence in late adolescence is limited. We studied the association between BMI in late adolescence and incident type 1 diabetes in young adulthood.

Methods: All Israeli adolescents, ages 16-19 years, undergoing medical evaluation in preparation for mandatory military conscription between January 1996 and December 2016 were included for analysis unless they had a history of dysglycaemia.

Background: Elevated blood pressure among adolescents has been shown to be associated with future adverse cardiovascular outcomes and early onset diabetes. Most data regarding systolic and diastolic blood pressure trends are based on surveys of selected populations within 10-20-year periods. The goal of this study was to characterize the secular trend of blood pressure given the rising prevalence of adolescent obesity.

Systemic sclerosis sine scleroderma (ssSSc) is a rare variant of systemic sclerosis, with only one pediatric case reported in the medical literature to date. Pulmonary arterial hypertension as the presenting feature of ssSSc is extremely rare, even in adults, and so far has never been reported in children. We report, for the first time, a case of pediatric ssSSc in a 3-year-old girl, who presented with interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension.
