Amaurosis Post-Bilateral Neck Dissection: A Systematic Review.

To discuss the prevalence of amaurosis post-bilateral radical neck dissections; and to provide a management algorithm that highlights the approaches undertaken in available literature to minimize incidence and maximally improve outcomes. This objective will be achieved by systematically reviewing and highlighting current literature. We systematically reviewed Pubmed, EMBASE, and Web of Science for articles pertaining to the management of amaurosis post-bilateral neck dissection.

Monitoring progress on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) response in the World Health Organization African region: Insights from the Tracking AMR Country Self-Assessment Survey (TrACSS) 2021 results for the human health sector.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major 21st century global health challenge. The WHO African Region Member States committed to develop and implement multisectoral national action plans (NAPs) that address AMR, in line with the Global Action Plan on AMR (GAP). The aim of this paper is to present the progress of AMR response in the WHO African Region based on the annual Tracking AMR Country Self-Assessment Survey (TrACSS), with a focus on human health indicators.

Novel partially cross-linked nanoparticles graft co-polymer as pore former for polyethersulfone membranes for dyes removal.

A newly developed water-soluble polymeric nano-additive termed "partially cross-linked nanoparticles graft copolymer (PCLNPG)" has been successfully synthesized and harnessed as a pore former for modifying a polyethersulfone ultrafiltration membrane for dyes removal. The PCLNPG content was varied in the PES polymeric matrix aiming to scrutinize its impact on membrane surface characteristics, morphological structure, and overall performance. Proposed interaction mechanism between methylene blue (MB), methyle orange (MO), and malachite green (MG) dyes with PES membrane was presented as well.

An Interesting Case of Weakness and Atrial Tachycardia in the Emergency Department: Thinking Beyond Hearts and Minds.

Thyrotoxic periodic paralysis is a rare but life-threatening presentation of hyperthyroidism that manifests with sudden, painless episodes of muscle weakness due to hypokalemia. We present the case of a middle-aged Middle Eastern female who attended our Emergency Department with sudden onset weakness to the lower limbs, resulting in her inability to walk. She had a power of 1/5 in the lower limbs, and subsequent investigations showed a low potassium level, and primary hyperthyroidism secondary to Grave's disease was diagnosed.

A Novel Image Classification Method Based on Residual Network, Inception, and Proposed Activation Function.

Although skip connections have demonstrated their usefulness in networks, a major issue arises when the dimensions between layers are not consistent. In such cases, it is necessary to use techniques such as zero-padding or projection to match the dimensions between layers.

Modification of Polyethersulfone Ultrafiltration Membrane Using Poly(terephthalic acid-co-glycerol-g-maleic anhydride) as Novel Pore Former.

In this research, poly terephthalic acid-co-glycerol-g-maleic anhydride (PTGM) graft co-polymer was used as novel water-soluble pore formers for polyethersulfone (PES) membrane modification. The modified PES membranes were characterized to monitor the effect of PTGM content on their pure water flux, hydrophilicity, porosity, morphological structure, composition, and performance. PTGM and PES/PTGM membranes were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and contact angle (CA).

Enhancing aphid detection framework based on ORB and convolutional neural networks.

The ideal antiseptic agent for skin preparation before elective cesarean section (CS) is not yet determined. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of skin preparation by chlorhexidine-alcohol compared with povidone-iodine before elective CS on the rate of surgical site infection (SSI). This prospective observational study included a total of 1424 pregnant women at term who were candidates for the elective CS and were divided into two equal groups of 712 patients in each, group 1 (chlorhexidine-alcohol group) and group 2 (povidone-iodine group).

In this article, we analyze the clinical and biological data concerning the autoimmune thyroid diseases in patients recruited in an endocrinology clinic at the university hospital center of Hôtel-Dieu de France between March 2005 and November 2005. We studied 121 patients (51 with Basedow disease and 70 with Hashimoto thyroiditis), between 13 and 68 years old, with a BMI of 24.68 kg/m2 and with a female predominance (105 women).

Laparoscopic repair of penetrating injury of the diaphragm: an experience from a district hospital.

In this study we review our experience in using laparoscopy as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool in dealing with penetrating diaphragmatic injuries due to stab wounds and look at the feasibility of using this procedure in other similar institutions. Thirty patients, all of whom were males 20-30 years of age, presented to the surgical emergency unit of our hospital with upper abdominal and lower chest wall stab wounds between 01-05-1998 and 30-11-2006. Diagnosis of the diaphragm injury was either obvious with omentum herniating through the chest wall, or occult with confirmation of the injury at laparoscopy.
