Open versus Thoracoscopic RFA-Assisted Lung Resection.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA)-assisted lung parenchymal transection through thoracotomy and thoracoscopy. Twelve domestic pigs underwent RFA-assisted lingulectomy: six through thoracotomy (group A), and six with thoracoscopy (group B). There was no mortality, no bleeding, or air leak intra- or postoperatively in either of the groups, and no conversion to open thoracotomy in group B.

Too-long calcaneal process: Results of surgical treatment and prognostic factors.

Introduction: The too-long anterior process (TLAP) can be responsible for ankle pain or repeated sprains in children or adolescents. The objective of this study was to assess the results of TLAP surgical treatment and to analyze influencing factors in case of this surgery's failure.

Material And Methods: Retrospective single-center study conducted from 2009 to 2012 including all patients under 18 years of age for a TLAP with follow-up equal to or longer than 1 year.

Hepatocyte growth factor measurement in AL amyloidosis.

Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is a pro-angiogenic cytokine activated by tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA) that might play a role in the progression of multiple myeloma (MM). Preliminary studies indicated that serum HGF levels were higher in patients with AL amyloidosis (AL) compared to those with MM. The aim of the present study was to determine whether HGF is a relevant marker of diagnosis and prognosis in AL.

Relationship between thoracic hypokyphosis, lumbar lordosis and sagittal pelvic parameters in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Purpose: Sagittal spine and pelvic alignment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is poorly described in the literature. It generally reports the sagittal alignment with regard to the type of curve and never correlated to the thoracic kyphosis. The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between thoracic kyphosis, lumbar lordosis and sagittal pelvic parameters in thoracic AIS.

[Follow-up of a 16-year-old adolescent with early-onset schizophrenia and catatonic symptoms].

Introduction: The aim of this paper is to underline the need of a systematic monitoring (1) of atypical antipsychotics and (2) of catatonic symptoms in child psychiatry. We present in this paper the clinical history of a 16-year-old adolescent inpatient needing a prescription of atypical antipsychotic drug. We present the most relevant results of our clinical monitoring over 7 months.

Non-invasive detection of hepatic amyloidosis: FibroScan, a new tool.

Introduction: FibroScan, a non-invasive tool for measuring liver stiffness (LS), is not specific to liver fibrosis. Other extra-hepatic conditions may modify the LS value.

Objectives: Our aim was to examine whether amyloid deposition in the liver may modify LS.

PAI-1 donor polymorphism influences long-term kidney graft survival.

Background: The type 1 plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1) is involved in the development of fibrosis, and its intrarenal expression is increased in interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy (IFTA). Moreover, a 4G/5G polymorphism of the PAI-1 gene has been described associating 4G haplotype with higher PAI-1 plasma activity. We investigated the relationship between the donor and recipient PAI-1 polymorphism and kidney graft survival.
