Article Synopsis
- The study aimed to assess the frequency of proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) and the outcomes of surgeries for Scheuermann’s Kyphosis (SK) using either only pedicle screws or a mix of hooks and screws.
- Researchers evaluated 37 SK patients retrospectively, dividing them into two groups: one with only pedicle screws (22 patients) and the other with a mix of proximal hooks and pedicle screws (15 patients), tracking their clinical and radiological progress for at least 2 years.
- Results showed no significant differences in overall scores between the two groups; however, the pedicle screws group had larger increases in PJK angles, suggesting that using hooks may help reduce the risk of PJK.
