Unlabelled: Candida meningitis is almost always caused by , but other species, such as , can cause it on rare occasions. is increasingly linked to immunocompromised hosts but also affects immunocompetent hosts. To the best of our knowledge, we present the ninth (9th) case of meningitis, the first from Saudi Arabia.

With over 55 million people globally affected by dementia and nearly 10 million new cases reported annually, Alzheimer's disease is a prevalent and challenging neurodegenerative disorder. Despite significant advancements in machine learning techniques for Alzheimer's disease detection, the widespread adoption of deep learning models raises concerns about their explainability. The lack of explainability in deep learning models for online handwriting analysis is a critical gap in the literature in the context of Alzheimer's disease detection.

Venous air embolism is a rare but potentially life threatening complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Diagnosis is difficult because of the lack of specific signs or symptoms. A 62-year-old man underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography for choledocholithiasis.

Treatments are only partially effective in major depressive disorders (MDD) but no biomarker exists to predict symptom improvement in patients. Animal models are essential tools in the development of antidepressant medications, but while recent genetic studies have demonstrated the polygenic contribution to MDD, current models are limited to either mimic the effect of a single gene or environmental factor. We developed in the past a model of depressive-like behaviors in mice (H/Rouen), using selective breeding based on behavioral reaction after an acute mild stress in the tail suspension test.

Cerebral phaeohyphomycosis (CP) is a serious form of phaeohyphomycosis. We report a case of CP caused by species in a 66-year-old immunocompromised renal transplant recipient female. Craniotomy was performed on an irregularly enhancing right cerebellar hemisphere lesion and abscess and tissue samples collected for microbiological and histological evaluation, showing fungal elements and species was isolated.

Retinopathy is one of the most common micro vascular impairments in diabetic subjects. Elevated blood glucose leads to capillary occlusion, provoking the uncontrolled increase in local growth of new vessels in the retina. When left untreated, it can lead to blindness.

Photopletysmography (PPG) is a non-invasive and well known technology that enables the recording of the digital volume pulse (DVP). Although PPG is largely employed in research, several aspects remain unknown. One of these is represented by the lack of information about how many waveform classes best express the variability in shape.

Renal affection is common in disseminated non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) which is known as secondary renal lymphoma (SRL). Primary renal lymphoma (PRL) is an exceedingly uncommon disease, which accounts for less than 1% of all renal masses. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of NHL in both primary as well as secondary renal lymphomas.

Treatment of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is based on immunochemotherapy with overall good outcomes. Complications related to the treatment or the disease itself can occur during follow-up. We herein report a case of a 37-year-old male who was diagnosed with stage IV gastric DLBCL.

(1) Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic, metabolic disease characterized by elevated levels of blood glucose. Recently, some studies approached the diabetes care domain through the analysis of the modifications of cardiovascular system parameters. In fact, cardiovascular diseases are the first leading cause of death in diabetic subjects.

Recent years have witnessed a strongly increasing interest in digital technology within medicine (sensor devices, specific smartphone apps) and specifically also neurology. Quantitative measures derived from digital technology could provide Digital Biomarkers (DMs) enabling a quantitative and continuous monitoring of disease symptoms, also outside clinics. This includes the possibility to continuously and sensitively monitor the response to treatment, hence opening the opportunity to adapt medication pathways quickly.

Photoplethysmography (PPG) is a non-invasive and cost-efficient optical technique used to assess blood volume variation inside the micro-circulation. PPG technology is widely used in a variety of clinical and non-clinical devices in order to investigate the cardiovascular system. One example of clinical PPG device is the pulse oxymeter, while non-clinical PPG devices include smartphones and smartwatches.

Due to the sensitive nature of diabetes-related data, preventing them from being easily shared between studies, and the wide discrepancies in their data processing pipeline, progress in the field of glucose prediction is hard to assess. To address this issue, we introduce GLYFE (GLYcemia Forecasting Evaluation), a benchmark of machine learning-based glucose predictive models. We present the accuracy and clinical acceptability of nine different models coming from the literature, from standard autoregressive to more complex neural network-based models.

Primary tumors of the epididymis are mostly benign in nature, and the most common type is adenomatoid tumors followed by leiomyomas. Leiomyoadenomatoid tumors are very rare benign epididymal neoplasms composed of two components: gland-like structures lined by cuboidal cells and bundles of smooth muscle components. The goal of treatment is testicular-preserving surgery.

Background And Objectives: Deep learning has yet to revolutionize general practices in healthcare, despite promising results for some specific tasks. This is partly due to data being in insufficient quantities hurting the training of the models. To address this issue, data from multiple health actors or patients could be combined by capitalizing on their heterogeneity through the use of transfer learning.

Rodent models of depression are useful for the investigation of cellular and neuronal mechanisms of antidepressant drugs and for the discovery of potential new targets. In this study, we examined the antidepressant-like effect of scopolamine, a non-selective muscarinic antagonist, in a genetic mouse model of depression obtained through a selective breeding strategy and called H/Rouen. In this model, we observed that scopolamine was active both in males and females at a lower dose (0.

Purpose Of The Study: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been involved in the development of some tumors, including Burkitt's lymphoma and Hodgkin's lymphoma. However, its potential role in glioma tumorigenesis remains debated. In this study, we investigated the EBV infection in gliomas from Tunisian patients.

The study investigated the pattern of MGMT promoter methylation and the expression of MGMT, P53, EGFR, MDM2 and PTEN proteins in glioblastomas multiforme (GBM) and evaluated their prognostic significance. We carried out a retrospective study of 80 GBM. Expression of MGMT as well as of P53, EGFR, MDM2 and PTEN was investigated by immunohistochemistry.

Hydatidiform moles (HM) are characterized by an abnormal proliferating trophoblast with a potential for a malignant transformation. Similar to other human tumors, trophoblastic pathogenesis is likely a multistep process involving several molecular and genetic alterations. The study was performed to investigate the expression patterns of c-erbB-2 and Bcl-2 oncoproteins, p53, p21 and p63 tumor suppressor proteins and Ki-67 cell proliferation marker in HM.

BACKGROUND Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare, aggressive primary cutaneous neuroendocrine tumor frequently associated with Merkel cell polyomavirus infection. Despite its aggressiveness, a few reports of spontaneous MCC regression have been described in the literature, most of them following incisional biopsy supporting a hypothetical role of surgery-induced inflammation in the process of regression. CASE REPORT We report a case of 69-year-old Caucasian male who was followed for an idiopathic hyper-eosinophilic syndrome.

Study Objectives: Paradoxical sleep (PS) has been shown to play an important role in memory, in particular in emotional memory processes. However, the involvement of this particular sleep stage in the systemic consolidation of remote (30 days old) memory has never been tested. We examined whether post-learning PS could play a role in the consolidation of remote fearful memory and in the brain network reorganization that depends on it.
