Metal-based nanoparticles (MNPs) have great potential for applications in wound healing and tissue engineering, and due to their unique structures, high bioactivities, and excellent designability characteristics, an increasing number of studies have been devoted to modifying these species to generate novel composites with desirable optical, electrical, and magnetic properties. However, few systematic and detailed reviews have been performed relating to the modification approaches available for MNPs and their resulting composites. In this review, a comprehensive summary is performed regarding the optimized modification formulations of MNPs for application in wound dressings, and the techniques used to prepare composite wound dressings are discussed.

Colorectal carcinoma (CRC) is a deadly cancer with an aggressive nature, and how CRC tumor cells manage to translocate and proliferate in a new tissue environment remains not fully understood. Recently, higher-order chromatin structures and spatial genome organization are increasingly implicated in diseases including cancer, but in-depth studies of three-dimensional genome (3D genome) of metastatic cancer are currently lacking, preventing the understanding of the roles of genome organization during metastasis. Here we perform multi-omics profiling of matched normal colon, primary tumor, lymph node metastasis, liver metastasis and normal liver tissue from CRC patients using Hi-C, ATAC-seq and RNA-seq technologies.

Thiamethoxam is one of the top three neonicotinoids found in the environment and in food. The widespread use of thiamethoxam in medicinal and edible herbs threatens their safe use. Therefore, it is particularly important to develop a rapid and simple approach to detect thiamethoxam residues in herbal medicines.

Epidermal growth factor receptor () mutations have emerged as the most well-studied oncogenic alterations in advanced non-small cell lung cancer. The presence of single common or rare mutations and extra complex mutations correlates with the response sensitivity to tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Therefore, given the lack of evidence for the emergence of rare mutation types, the pathogenic mechanisms of uncommon mutations and the optimal treatment strategies remain to be explored further.

Background: Observational epidemiological studies have indicated a potential association between asthma and sepsis, although the causal relationship between these 2 conditions remains uncertain. To further investigate this relationship, the present study utilized Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis approach to explore the potential links between asthma and various types of sepsis.

Methods: In a large-scale genome-wide association study, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with asthma were selected as instrumental variables.

Topologically associating domains (TADs), megabase-scale features of chromatin spatial architecture, are organized in a domain-within-domain TAD hierarchy. Within TADs, the inner and smaller subTADs not only manifest cell-to-cell variability, but also precisely regulate transcription and differentiation. Although over 20 TAD callers are able to detect TAD, their usability in biomedicine is confined by a disagreement of outputs and a limit in understanding TAD hierarchy.

The sensitive and stable detection of trace heavy metals in liquid is crucial given its profound impact on various aspects of human life. Currently, nanoparticle-enhanced laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (NELIBS) with dried droplet method (DDM) is widely applied for heavy metals detection. Nevertheless, the coffee ring effect (CRE) in DDM affects the stability, accuracy, and sensitivity of NELIBS.

Disialosyl globopentaosylceramide (DSGb5) is a tumor-associated complex glycosphingolipid. However, the accessibility of structurally well-defined DSGb5 for precise biological functional studies remains challenging. Herein, we describe the first total synthesis of DSGb5 glycolipid by an efficient chemoenzymatic approach.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study involving 271 liver cirrhosis patients found a sarcopenia prevalence of 27.7%, with various factors like age, physical activity, and nutritional status influencing its occurrence.
  • * The research indicates that while age and other factors are associated with sarcopenia, maintaining physical activity and proper nutrition could help improve muscle strength and overall health in cirrhosis patients.

Background: There have been no reports of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) during treatment of chronic hepatitis C (CHC) with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs).

Case Summary: We report a 50-year-old male patient with CHC. The patient sought medical attention from the Department of Infectious Diseases at our hospital due to severe yellowing of the skin and sclera, which developed 3 mo previously and attended two consecutive hospitals without finding the cause of liver damage.

Background: Carbon quantum dot (CQDs) are zero-dimensional carbon nanomaterials with a size of less than 10 nm CQDs are widely used in the field of ion detection by virtue of their fluorescence characteristics such as strong fluorescence intensity, good optical stability and tunable emission wavelength. Although the traditional atomic absorption method, electrochemical method and other metal ion detection methods are highly sensitive, the operation is complex, expensive and limited by the site. Therefore, we prepared the N, S-CQDs capable of detecting Hg and MnO in water with the advantages of simple operation, low cost, and direct visual signal.

Core fucosylation and -GlcNAcylation are the two most famous protein glycosylation modifications that regulate diverse physiological and pathological processes in living organisms. Here, a "two birds one stone" strategy has been described for the site-specific analysis of core fucosylation and -GlcNAcylation. Taking advantage of two mutant endoglycosidases (EndoF3-D165A and EndoCC-N180H), which efficiently and specifically recognize core fucose and -GlcNAc, glycopeptides can be labeled using a biantennary -glycan probe bearing azido and oxazoline groups.

Objective: To study the effects of vitamin D supplementation on physical growth and neurologic development of very preterm infants receiving nesting intervention in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Methods: A total of 196 preterm infants had been hospitalized in NICU with the gestational age (GA) between 28 and 32 weeks. Among them, 98 preterm infants received nesting intervention, and the other 98 cases received both nesting and vitamin D supplementation (400 IU).

The first total synthesis of lipooligosaccharide core octasaccharides containing natural and unnatural sialic acids has been achieved by an efficient chemoenzymatic approach. A highly convergent [3 + 3] coupling strategy was developed to chemically assemble a unique hexasaccharide bearing multiple rare higher-carbon sugars d-glycero-d-manno-heptose (d,d-Hep), l-glycero-d-manno-heptose (l,d-Hep), and 3-deoxy-α-d-manno-oct-2-ulosonic acid (Kdo). Key features include sequential one-pot glycosylations for oligosaccharide assembly and the construction of the challenging α-(1 → 5)-linked Hep-Kdo glycosidic bond by gold-catalyzed glycosylation with a glycosyl -alkynylbenzoate donor.

Bioaccumulation and biotransformation are critical factors that affect the release of easily metabolizable chemicals to cause human toxicity. The glucoside-type modified mycotoxin Zearalenone-14-Glucoside (Z14G) has attracted global attention for its high occurrence in foodstuffs and the potential threat to humans as its high rate of transformation into parent forms. Given the limited toxicokinetics information, this study assessed the absorption, distribution, biotransformation and excretion of Z14G, aiming to define the potential risk of Z14G.

Core fucosylation, the attachment of α1,6-fucose to the innermost N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) residue of N-glycans, has a strong relationship with tumor growth, invasion, metastasis, prognosis, and immune evasion by regulating many membrane proteins. However, details about the functional mechanism are still largely unknown due to the lack of an effective analytical method to identify cell-surface core-fucosylated glycoproteins, and especially glycosylation sites. Here, we developed a sensitive and reversible labeling strategy for probing core fucosylation, by which core-fucosylated glycoproteins that located on cell-surface were selectively tagged by a biotinylated probe with high sensitivity.
