Exposure of PM2.5 can cause different degrees of lung injury, which is referred with inflammatory response. Some evidences showed that low-dose radiation (LDR) induces hormesis in immune, however, it is unknown if LDR ameliorates the PM2.

  • Dang-Gui-Bu-Xue decoction (DBD) is a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat diabetic nephropathy (DN), but its specific components and effects are not fully understood.
  • A study evaluated DBD's effectiveness against DN in diabetic mice by analyzing various health markers, chemical constituents, and potential pharmacological pathways.
  • Results indicated that DBD improved key aspects of DN, identified 129 chemical constituents, and suggested that the AGEs/RAGE pathway might be a significant mechanism for its protective effects.

Anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins (PAs) are important secondary metabolites in plants, high contents of which are an important goal for quality breeding of white clover (Trifolium repens). However, the involvement of glutathione S-transferase (GST) in the transport of anthocyanins and PAs remains unexplored in white clover. This study identified 153 different TrGSTs in white clover.

Background: Understanding the metabolic changes in colorectal cancer (CRC) and exploring potential diagnostic biomarkers is crucial for elucidating its pathogenesis and reducing mortality. Cancer cells are typically derived from cancer tissues and can be easily obtained and cultured. Systematic studies on CRC cells at different stages are still lacking.

  • * A total of 34 aroma compounds were identified, with findings showing changes in levels of ferulic acid and Z-ligustilide; RAS had lower levels after processing, while WAS had higher levels than WSAS.
  • * The antioxidant capacity was found to decrease in RAS after processing, with WAS showing better antioxidant capabilities than WSAS, highlighting the significant impact of processing on these characteristics.

CELF6 (CUGBP Elav-Like Family Member 6), a canonical RNA binding protein (RBP), plays important roles in post-transcriptional regulation of pre-mRNAs. However, the underlying mechanism of lower expressed CELF6 in lung cancer tissues is still unclear. In this study, we increased CELF6 manually in lung cancer cell line (A549) and utilized transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq) technology to screen out differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and alternative splicing events (ASEs) after CELF6 over-expression (CELF6-OE).

Germ cell tumor is the most common malignant tumor of the gonads, sometimes they are found in locations other than the gonads, called Extra-gonadal Germ cell tumours (EGCTs). Primary mediastinal germ cell tumors (PMGCTs) are a kind of rare neoplasm in the anterior mediastinum, including seminoma and non-seminomatous, or appear as a mixture. Primary mediastinal seminoma mixed with sarcoma is an extremely rare clinicopathologic entity.

  • The study looked at 21 batches of a medicine called Danggui Buxue Decoction (DBD) and tested their quality.
  • They figured out how to measure certain important parts of these batches, like ferulic acid and astragaloside Ⅳ.
  • The results showed that all batches were very similar in quality, which helps to make sure the medicine is good and can be trusted.

The hydrothermal products of the Clam hydrothermal field from the Okinawa Trough were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to determine abundances of hydrocarbons. The n-alkanes in the hydrothermal products conformed to a bimodal distribution and exhibited an odd-to-even predominance of high molecular weight and an even-to-odd predominance of low molecular weight n-alkanes with maxima at C and C. The total concentration of n-alkanes in hydrothermal sediment was much higher than that in hydrothermal sulfide and altered rock.

Background: Although combination therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) provides a promising efficacy in multiple cancers, their use is facing challenges for a high incidence of adverse effects. This meta-analysis was conducted to compare the risks of organ-specific immune-related adverse events (IRAEs) associated with ICI monotherapy versus combination therapy among cancer patients.

Methods: Electronic databases were systematically searched to include eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Heart failure arises from diverse cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, ischemic disease and atherosclerosis, valvular insufficiency, myocarditis, and contractile protein mutations. MicroRNAs are dysregulated in heart failure, but identification of the specific microRNAs involved remains incomplete. Here, we evaluate miR-25 expression in the peripheral blood from healthy, dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), remote infarct (OMI), hypertensive heart disease (HHD), and HHD resulting in heart failure (HHDF) using q-PCR.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on how low oxygen levels (hypoxia) and a specific drug (PI3K inhibitor LY294002) affect angiogenic factors in A549 lung cancer cells.
  • A549 cells were subjected to treatments under normal oxygen (normoxic) and low oxygen (hypoxic) conditions, allowing for comparison of cellular responses.
  • Key findings showed that hypoxia increased levels of certain factors like HIF-1α and VEGF, while the PI3K inhibitor reduced HIF-1α expression under hypoxic conditions, indicating hypoxia enhances tumor-promoting factors in lung cancer cells.

Orbital metastasis as the initial presentation of lung adenocarcinoma is very rare, and so the lack of knowledge about this phenomenon can easily result in misdiagnosis, either as a orbital primary tumor or benign lesion. Here, we report a rare case in which the orbital symptom appeared first without any pulmonary manifestations. Our patient developed decreasing vision in his right eye over a 3-month duration.

Autophagy is an evolutionarily conservation process whereby cytoplasm and cellular organelles are degraded in lysosomes for amino acid and energy recycling. Autophagy concurrent with radiotherapy has emerged as a novel approach in breast cancer treatment. Our studies conclude that autophagy and apoptosis can be induced by radiation and inhibition of autophagy can increase apoptosis.

Increasing emphasis has been placed on registries for an organized system used in developing clinical research to improve health care. China has sufficient data that can be applied broadly, but the heterogeneity and irregularity of registries limit their applicability. This article aims to describe the status of registries in China and the related challenges.
