Broad beans, a seasonal leguminous vegetable renowned for their distinctive flavor and high-quality plant protein, present unique opportunities for culinary and nutritional applications. To better understand the impact of various blanching processes on their characteristics, we employed headspace gas chromatography-ion mobility mass spectrometry (HS-GC-IMS) and biochemical tests to evaluate changes in color, volatile compound content, and levels of antioxidant-related substances following different blanching treatments. Our findings revealed that microwave blanching significantly influenced the a* metric and antioxidant capacity of broad beans.

At present, there is no clear consensus on the impact of carbohydrate feeds on bee colony health, and comprehensive research and evaluation in this context is lacking. To comprehensively and objectively examine the health status of honeybees after consuming those carbohydrates from multiple perspectives, experimental techniques, including high-throughput sequencing of the transcriptome, proboscis extension reflex (PER), and measuring bee growth parameters were employed. This study showed that compared with honey, feeding high fructose syrup (HFS) resulted in a decrease in the survival rate and body weight of bees, while sucrose decreased the learning and memory ability of bees.

Direct epoxidation of propylene (CH) with hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O) over the Au/TS-1 catalyst is known as the "Holy Grail" reaction for propylene oxide (PO) synthesis. However, Au nanoparticle loading on TS-1 was limited by traditional deposition precipitation, impregnation and could not achieve ideal catalytic results. In this report, alkaline-assisted excessive impregnation helped to remove Cl from the Au impregnation precursor, improve the loading efficiency of Au nanoparticles and overcome the abnormal growth of nanograins.

Developing a pragmatic pattern for timely learning crop growth information is significant in promoting high-quality agricultural production. Herein, an electrochemical sensing mode is designed for in-situ monitoring plant hormone (indole acetic acid as a typical example). To simplify the available electrochemical procedure with separate division of sensing interface decoration and liquid electrolyte addition, a bi-functional electrolyte, with superior quality of electron conduction and ion mass transfer, is built by exploiting the excellent conductivity of carbon-based nanostructures and the dynamic redox cycle between phenols and metal ions, endowed with the integration between conductive medium and semi-solid electrolyte.

Cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are the predominant stromal cell-type in the solid tumor microenvironment, originating from various cell types and playing a crucial role in promoting tumor progression and metastasis The generation of CAFs is influenced by complex factors secreted by tumor cells, with particular emphasis on transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β). However, it remains largely unknown whether growth/differentiation factor-15 (GDF15), as a member of the TGF-β superfamily, exerts similar effects to TGF-β in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). In this study, we investigated the impact of GDF15 derived from tumor cells on CAF transformation and elucidated the underlying mechanisms.

Suppression of energy disorders in the vertical direction of a photovoltaic device, along which charge carriers are forced to travel, has been extensively studied to reduce unproductive charge recombination and thus achieve high-efficiency perovskite solar cells. In contrast, energy disorders in the lateral direction of the junction for large-area modules are largely overlooked. Herein, we show that the micro-inhomogeneity characteristics in the surface lateral energetics of formamidinium (FA)-based perovskite films also significantly influence the device performance, particularly with accounting for the stability and scale-up aspects of the devices.

Perovskite solar modules (PSMs) show outstanding power conversion efficiencies (PCEs), but long-term operational stability remains problematic. We show that incorporating -dimethylmethyleneiminium chloride into the perovskite precursor solution formed dimethylammonium cation and that previously unobserved methyl tetrahydrotriazinium ([MTTZ]) cation effectively improved perovskite film. The in situ formation of [MTTZ] cation increased the formation energy of iodine vacancies and enhanced the migration energy barrier of iodide and cesium ions, which suppressed nonradiative recombination, thermal decomposition, and phase segregation processes.

It has been proven that robot-assisted rehabilitation training can effectively promote the recovery of upper-limb motor function in post-stroke patients. Increasing patients' active participation by providing assist-as-needed (AAN) control strategies is key to the effectiveness of robot-assisted rehabilitation training. In this paper, a greedy assist-as-needed (GAAN) controller based on radial basis function (RBF) network combined with 3 degrees of freedom (3-DOF) potential constraints was proposed to provide AAN interactive forces of an end-effect upper limb rehabilitation robot.

Since the first synthesis of graphdiyne (GDY), it has been widely receiving a lot of attention and has great application prospects in many fields, such as energy storage, catalysis, and sensing. However, the complex deprotection treatment and long reaction time limit its mass production and applications. Here, we present a strategy for the silver-catalyzed deprotection-free rapid synthesis of GDY.

Autophagy plays a dual role in coronavirus infection, facilitating the elimination of either proviral components (virophagy) or antiviral factors such as mitochondria (mitophagy), leading to complex mechanisms of immune evasion. Understanding the mechanisms that govern the switch between the autophagic degradation of deleterious or beneficial substrates in coronavirus infection is crucial for developing precise drug targets to treat virus-induced diseases. However, this switch remains largely unknown.
