Background: The World Health Organization introduced intrinsic capacity (IC) as a metric for healthy aging. However, we found no report on the association between IC and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We investigated the association between IC and incident T2DM in older Chinese from the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study.

Additionally, studies focusing on dimensions of cognitive function are scarce, with none from China. Therefore, we examined the associations of childhood parental education with late-life cognitive function and it's dimensions and investigated potential interactions.

Methods: A prospective study included 24,611 Chinese aged 50+ years and without CVD at 2003-2008 from Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study. QT interval was corrected by Bazett, Fridericia, Framingham and Hodges formulas.
Background: The association of changes in metabolic syndrome (MetS) with cognitive function remains unclear. We explored this association using prospective and Mendelian randomization (MR) studies.
Methods: MetS components including high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), systolic blood pressure (SBP), waist circumference (WC), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and triglycerides were measured at baseline and two follow-ups, constructing a MetS index.
Background: To examine the associations of physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) with longevity and age acceleration (AA) using observational and Mendelian randomization (MR) studies, and quantify the mediating effects of lipids.
Methods: In Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study (GBCS), PA and SB were assessed by the Chinese Version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Longevity was defined as participants whose age at follow-up or at death was at or above the 90th age percentile.
Tea consumption is avoided by some due to concerns about its potential to cause anemia. To clarify this impact, we assessed the association between tea intake and anemia in a Chinese prospective cohort study and by Mendelian randomization (MR). We analyzed associations of tea intake with anemia using data from the baseline ( = 30 085) and three subsequent follow-ups (the first: = 17 898; the second: = 10 435; the third: = 5311) in the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study (GBCS).

Methods: In the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study, CSD and ACE were assessed by 7 and 5 culturally sensitive questions, respectively, on 8,716 participants aged 50+. Depressive symptoms were measured by 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS).
Background: Poor oral hygiene is associated with overall wellness, but evidence regarding associations of oral health with all-cause mortality remain inconclusive. We aimed to examine the associations of oral health with all-cause and cause-specific mortality in middle-aged and older Chinese adults.
Methods: 28 006 participants were recruited from 2003-2008 and followed up until 2021.

Introduction: A standardized measure for inflammaging is lacking. We introduced the inflammatory age (iAge) as a quantification method and explored its associations with age-related traits and diseases in an older Chinese cohort.
Methods: Inflammatory markers including white blood cell count (WBC), neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, C-reactive protein, platelets and albumin were measured.
It is unclear whether cognitive impairment and the longitudinal change in cognition are associated with the risk of fatal stroke in aging populations. Based on the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study data a sum of 26,064 participants at baseline and all deaths caused by stroke in a mean follow-up of 14.3 years (standard deviation = 3.

We examined the prospective association of the dietary pattern with all-cause, cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in older Chinese. : We included 19 598 participants of a Guangzhou Biobank cohort study aged 50+ years, who were recruited from 2003 to 2006 and followed up until July, 2022.

Methods: A total of 29,825 participants aged 50 + years were included. Causes of death were identified through record linkage.
To examine the association of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) with anemia among older people. 24,116 participants aged 50 years or above were recruited. Multivariable linear and logistic regression was used to assess the associations of self-reported ACEs number with hemoglobin concentrations (g/dL) and presence of anemia.

Our objective was to examine associations of total testosterone, free testosterone, bioavailable testosterone, and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) with all-cause and CVD mortality in older Chinese men.
Methods: Total testosterone and SHBG were assayed, and free testosterone and bioavailable testosterone were calculated using Vermeulen formula.
Backgruound: Abnormal glucose metabolism is a risk factor for colorectal cancer (CRC). However, association of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) with CRC risk remains under-reported. We examined the association between glycemic indicators (HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose, fasting insulin, 2-hour glucose, 2-hour insulin, and homeostasis model of risk assessment-insulin resistance index) and CRC risk using prospective analysis and meta-analysis.

Methods: Twelve-lead ECG measurements were performed on 21,720 participants without cardiovascular disease (5,918 men) from the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study. The participants were aged 50 years or above (mean age 61.
Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease. Unhealthy dietary habit is one of major risk factors of NAFLD. However, the associations between specific types of fish and meat consumption and NAFLD remain inconclusive.

Background: Previous studies on associations of perceived stress with poor memory performance in older adults showed inconsistent results. We examined the prospective associations of perceived stress with memory decline using data from Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study (GBCS).
Methods: Perceived stress was measured by the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) at baseline (2003-2006), with greater scores indicating greater stress.
Jin & Bu, from China is described and illustrated. It is characterized by a deeply emarginated posterior margin of tergite 2, less differentiated marginal setae on all tergites, absence of seta a3 around the antennal base, and 6-8 setae on the first tergite. The complete mitochondrial genome of the new species is also analyzed and compared with the mitogenome of .

Whether they are superior to conventional obesity indices in predicting colorectal cancer (CRC) remains unclear. We examined the associations of VAI and ABSI with CRC risk, and investigated their performance in discriminating CRC risk compared with conventional obesity indices in the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study.

The group of soil arthropods known as Collembola is characterized by its abundance and sensitivity to environmental changes. They are ideal an species for soil indicators. In order to clarify the effects of species invasion and inundation on the Collembola community in coastal mudflat wetlands, the correlation between the collembolan functional traits and environmental factors was studied in Shanghai Jiuduansha Wetland National Nature Reserve for the first time.
