2'-Fucosyllactose (2'-FL) is an important functional ingredient of advanced infant formula. Here, Escherichia coli MG1655 was engineered for achieving high 2'-FL production. The expressions of 2'-FL synthesis pathway genes were finely regulated with single or multi copies according to rate-limiting enzyme diagnosis.

Purpose: To investigate the immunopathology and immunomodulatory roles of interleukin-12 (IL-12) in periodontal disease.

Methods: Ninety-eight patients with chronic periodontitis from January 2016 to January 2019 were enrolled and divided into mild group (30 cases), moderate group (35 cases) and severe group (33 cases) according to the severity of periodontitis; meanwhile, 30 healthy subjects who underwent periodontal examination in our hospital were selected as the control group. Clinical periodontal indicators including probing depth(PD), attachment loss(AL), plaque index(PLI), bleeding index(BI), Th cell expression (Th1, Th2, Th17) in peripheral blood, IL-12 levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and serum were measured.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common malignancies and has a poor prognosis. Circular RNA (circRNA) has been increasingly recognized as a crucial contributor to carcinogenesis. circRNA_0000140 has been aberrantly expressed in OSCC, but its role in tumor growth and metastasis remains largely unclear.

This report systematically investigates the influence of different carrier gases (O, N, and air) on the growth of gallium oxide (GaO) thin films on c-plane sapphire substrates by using the mist-CVD method. Although XRD and Raman measurements show that the pure corundum-structured α-GaO with single (0006) plane orientation was successfully obtained for all three different carrier gases, the crystal quality could be greatly affected by the carrier gas. When O is used as the carrier gas, the smallest full-width at half maximum (FWHM), the very sharp absorption cutoff edge, the perfect lattice structure, the highest growth rate, and the smooth surface can be obtained for the epitaxial α-GaO film as demonstrated by XRD, UV-VIS, TEM, AFM (Atomic Force Microscope), and SEM measurements.

The Asian hornet, Vespa velutina, is an invasive, globally-distributed predator of European honey bees and other insects. To better under its reproductive biology and to find a specific, effective, and low-impact control method for this species, we identified and tested the key compounds in V. velutina sex pheromone.

In colonial organisms, alarm pheromones can provide a key fitness advantage by enhancing colony defence and warning of danger. Learning which species use alarm pheromone and the key compounds involved therefore enhances our understanding of how this important signal has evolved. However, our knowledge of alarm pheromones is more limited in the social wasps and hornets compared with the social bees and ants.

Objective: To observe the clinical effect on site preservation with self platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) in posterior dental areas after extraction.

Methods: Thirty patients who asked to extract posterior teeth and were ready for dental implantation were enrolled. PRF was implanted immediately in alveolar fossa after extraction.

Objective: A meta-analysis was performed to augment the insufficient data on the impact of mutative EGFR downstream phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways on the clinical efficiency of epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

Methods: Network databases were explored in April, 2015. Papers that investigated the clinical outcomes of NSCLC patients treated with EGFR-TKIs according to the status of K-ras and/or PIK3CA gene mutation were included.

This study examined the role of CRH-induced ovarian cell apoptosis in the restraint stress (RS)-induced impairment of oocyte competence. Oocyte percentages of apoptotic cumulus cells (CCs) did not differ between stressed and control mice before in vitro maturation (IVM) but became significantly higher in stressed mice after IVM without serum, growth factor, and hormone. The level of Bcl2 mRNA decreased significantly in mural granulosa cells (MGCs) and ovarian homogenates after RS.

Although the predatory stress experimental protocol is considered more psychological than the restraint protocol, it has rarely been used to study the effect of psychological stress on reproduction. Few studies exist on the direct effect of psychological stress to a female on developmental competence of her oocytes, and the direct effect of predatory maternal stress on oocytes has not been reported. In this study, a predatory stress system was first established for mice with cats as predators.
