Aim: Mood disorders are a serious issue for patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) because poor mental health can exacerbate the disease course. This study aimed to identify the effect of proinflammatory cytokines on the mood of patients with RA.

Methods: This study was conducted at a rheumatology clinic in Northern Taiwan.

Background: Few studies have investigated the difference in bacterial contamination between conventional reused ventilator systems and disposable closed ventilator-suction systems. Methods: The enrolled intubated and mechanically ventilated patients used a conventional reused ventilator system and a disposable closed ventilator-suction system, respectively, for a week; specimens were then collected from the ventilator circuit systems to evaluate human and environmental bacterial contamination.
