The mangrove ecosystems store a significant amount of "blue carbon" to mitigate global climate change, but also serve as hotspots for greenhouse gases (GHGs: CO, CH and NO) production. The CH and NO emissions offset mangrove carbon benefits, however, the extent of this effect remains inadequately quantified. By applying the 36 h time-series observations and mapping cruises, here we investigated the spatial and temporal distribution of GHGs and their fluxes in Dongzhaigang (DZG) bay, the largest mangrove ecosystem in China, at tidal and monthly scales.

Background: After the failure of clarithromycin- and bismuth-based quadruple therapy (CBQT), levofloxacin- and bismuth-based quadruple therapy (LBQT) is recommended for eradication. We compared the efficacies of second-line tailored bismuth-based quadruple therapy (TBQT) and empirical LBQT.

Background/aims: Non-coding RNAs including miRNA and lncRNA had been reported to regulate gene expression and were both related to cancer progression. MicroRNA-141 (miR-141) has been reported to play a role in the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) process and H19 has also been demonstrated to promote malignancy in various cancers. The conserved branch-site sequence UAC-UAAC is known to form base pairs with the complementary sequence GUAGUA in U2 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) during mRNA splicing in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Although the GUAGUA element is conserved in mammalian U2 snRNA, mammalian branch sites conform only weakly to a YURAC consensus and can even be deleted without obvious effects on the efficiency of splicing in vivo. To understand why the GUAGUA element of U2 is conserved in evolution but the branch site is not, we have devised two different competitive assays for branch-site selection using the first intron of the human beta-globin gene.
