The implications of PVT range from immediate issues such as intestinal ischemia to long-term concerns including portal hypertension and its complications. However, there is a notable gap in comprehensive studies on PVT in IBD, especially with the increasing incidence of IBD in Asia.

Particularly, the study evaluates strength characteristics by calculating the maturity equivalent to 28 days of curing at 20 °C. A model based on the relationship between maturity and strength was applied to predict the compressive strength, and the experimental data were analyzed to derive strength coefficients for each variable.

In this study, we sought to compare the surgical and oncologic outcomes of open and minimally invasive reoperation for postoperatively diagnosed T2 GBC.
Study Design: Patients who underwent open (n = 110) and laparoscopic (n = 38) reoperation for T2 GBC between November 2004 and October 2022 at five tertiary referral centers were included in this multicenter retrospective cohort study.
Background/aims: The study investigated the incidence, risk factors, and clinical outcomes of chronic antibiotic-refractory pouchitis (CARP) in Korean patients with ulcerative colitis (UC).
Methods: This single-center retrospective study included patients with UC who underwent total proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis at the Asan Medical Center in Korea between January 1987 and December 2022. The primary outcomes were endoscopic remission and pouch failure.
Background: The choice of an appropriate type of orthosis depends on the patient's specific condition and needs. Different types of orthoses can affect plantar pressure distribution during certain gait patterns. Toe and heel gaits are common patterns of gait assigned for optimal recovery in patients with foot or ankle injuries.

Methods: We performed RNA sequencing of the uninflamed small bowel tissues obtained from 70 patients with ileal CD and 9 patients with colon cancer (non-CD controls) during bowel resection. Differentially expressed gene (DEG) analyses were performed using DESeq2.
Background: Gallbladder cancer is a rare disease with poor prognosis, for which surgical resection is considered the only curative treatment. The widespread adoption of laparoscopic cholecystectomy for benign biliary diseases has led to an increased incidence of postoperatively diagnosed gallbladder cancer. Several studies have proposed that tumors exceeding stage T2 require additional resection.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFluorescence-guided surgery has emerged as an innovative technique with promising applications in the treatment of various tumors, including colon cancer. Tumor-initiating probe yellow (TiY) has been discovered for identifying tumorigenic cells by unbiased phenotypic screening with thousands of diversity-oriented fluorescence library (DOFL) compounds in a patient-derived lung cancer cell model. This study demonstrated the clinical feasibility of TiY for tumor-specific fluorescence imaging in the tissues of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC).

Methods: Patients who underwent robotic surgery for rectal adenocarcinoma from January 2016 to September 2023 at two tertiary referral centers were included. A retrospective analysis was conducted to compare key parameters between patient cohorts before and after propensity score matching.
Electron beam (EB) technology typically consists of high-energy electron streams produced by a linear accelerator. Although promising, the use of EB irradiation as a technique to delay ripening and prevent spoilage in tomatoes has not been extensively investigated. In this study, the effectiveness of EB irradiation in prolonging the shelf life of tomatoes postharvest was investigated.

Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is characterized by immune responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens without clinical symptoms or evidence of active tuberculosis. Effective LTBI management is crucial for tuberculosis elimination, requiring accurate diagnosis and treatment. In South Korea, LTBI guidelines have been updated periodically, the latest being in 2024.

Polynucleotides (PN), exogenous DNA fragments, promote wound repair through their stimulatory and anti-inflammatory effects. Recent findings indicate a synergistic effect of PN and hyaluronic acid (HA) combinations in regulating inflammation and promoting cell proliferation.

This study compared short-term postoperative outcomes between powered and manual circular staplers.
Methods: This retrospective study included colorectal cancer patients at the tertiary referral center from April to October 2023 who underwent anterior or low anterior resection (LAR) using a circular stapler.
Background: Medical treatment for Crohn's disease (CD) has continuously improved, which has led to a decrease in surgical recurrence rates. Despite these advancements, 25% of patients will undergo repeat intestinal surgery. Recurrence of CD commonly occurs on the mesentery side of the anastomosis site.

Materials And Methods: This pragmatic, multicenter, randomized controlled phase 3 trial was conducted in seven tertiary centers.
This study investigates the changes in hippocampal proteomic profiles during demyelination and remyelination using the cuprizone model. Employing two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry for protein profiling, we observed significant alterations in the expression of ketimine reductase mu-crystallin (CRYM) and protein disulfide isomerase A3 precursor (PDIA3) following exposure to and subsequent withdrawal from cuprizone. Immunohistochemical staining validated these protein expression patterns in the hippocampus, revealing that both PDIA3 and CRYM were downregulated in the hippocampal CA1 region during demyelination and upregulated during remyelination.

Precision nutrition encompasses a range of factors, from broad strata of age and sex categories to personal characteristics such as lifestyle to an individual's unique genotype. This breadth of scope requires us to consider how precision nutrition can be implemented in an inclusive and appropriate way for individuals and groups within real-life populations.

Direct reprogramming provides a novel breakthrough for generating functional endothelial cells (ECs) without the need for intermediate stem or progenitor states, offering a promising resource for cardiovascular research and treatment. ETV2 is a key transcription factor that has been identified as a pioneering factor for specifying endothelial lineage. Achieving precise ETV2 induction is essential for effective endothelial reprogramming, and maintaining the reprogrammed cellular phenotype relies on a specific combination of growth factors and small molecules.
