Tissue-level oscillation is achieved by tissue-intrinsic clocks along with network-dependent signals originating from distal organs and organismal behavior. Yet, it remains unexplored whether maternal circadian rhythms during pregnancy influence fetal rhythms and impact long-term susceptibility to dietary challenges in offspring. Here, we demonstrate that circadian disruption during pregnancy decreased placental and neonatal weight yet retained transcriptional and structural maturation.

Although LND is usually performed for perihilar type ICC, there is no consensus on whether routine LND should be performed for peripheral type ICC. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic significance of LND in patients who underwent hepatectomy for peripheral type ICC.

However, these outcomes have not been adequately studied. We evaluated body composition, insulin sensitivity, metabolic health and adipose tissue biology in women with obesity and lipedema (Obese-LIP) before and after moderate (~9%) diet-induced weight loss.

Icodextrin (ICO) improves peritoneal ultrafiltration and its early use reduces mortality. However, its effectiveness in reducing PD-associated infections remains to be elucidated.

Lipin 1 catalyzes the conversion of phosphatidic acid to diacylglycerol, the penultimate step of triglyceride synthesis, which is essential for lipid storage. Herein we found that adipose tissue LPIN1 expression is decreased in people with obesity compared with lean subjects, and low LPIN1 expression correlated with multi-tissue insulin resistance and increased rates of hepatic de novo lipogenesis.

However, the spatial and contextual events inciting MMP14 activation and its metabolic sequelae are not fully understood. Here, we introduce an inducible, hepatocyte-specific MMP14-deficient model (MMP14 mice) to elucidate cell-intrinsic and systemic MMP14 function.

Previous benchtop studies alternatively demonstrated successful infrared laser sealing and cutting of blood vessels, in a sequential, two-step approach. This study describes a smaller, laparoscopic device compatible design, and simultaneous approach to sealing and bisection of vessels, with potential optical feedback.

Methods: Corporate managers and employees of four enterprises with fewer than 300 employees received support from an experienced OHN in private practice through five support sessions per company, primarily targeting company managers. The OHNs documented their support steps and evaluations.
Aim: This study elucidated the experience of nurse educators instructing practicums for nursing students assigned to the care of end-of-life patients in fundamental nursing education.
Background: With the growing population of older adults and increased mortality, nurses providing care for people at the end-of-life stage and their families (referred to as end-of-life nursing) will be increasingly important in Japanese healthcare settings. Acquiring knowledge and action-level methods can be insufficient for nursing students to approach the illness experiences of people at the end of their life and their families, increasing the importance of practicum in end-of-life nursing to enable learning from experience.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with multiple complications, with recent scholarly attention underscoring cognitive impairment as a salient manifestation. Considering societal aging, preserving cognitive function has emerged as an urgent medical concern. Prolonged dialysis, encompassing hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD), has been associated with a decline in cognitive function.

Nociceptive somatosensory neurons densely innervate and intimately interact with epidermal cells to receive these cues, however the mechanisms by which epidermal interactions shape processing of noxious inputs is still poorly understood. Here, we identify a role for dendrite intercalation between epidermal cells in tuning sensitivity of Drosophila larvae to noxious mechanical stimuli.

We evaluated multi-organ system metabolic function in 20 adults with metabolically healthy obesity (MHO; normal fasting glucose and triglycerides, oral glucose tolerance, intrahepatic triglyceride content, and whole-body insulin sensitivity), 20 adults with metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO; prediabetes, hepatic steatosis, and whole-body insulin resistance), and 15 adults who were metabolically healthy lean. Compared with MUO, people with MHO had (1) altered skeletal muscle biology (decreased ceramide content and increased expression of genes involved in BCAA catabolism and mitochondrial structure/function); (2) altered adipose tissue biology (decreased expression of genes involved in inflammation and extracellular matrix remodeling and increased expression of genes involved in lipogenesis); (3) lower 24-h plasma glucose, insulin, non-esterified fatty acids, and triglycerides; (4) higher plasma adiponectin and lower plasma PAI-1 concentrations; and (5) decreased oxidative stress.

Renal sinus fat (RSF) is an ectopic fat depot located at the renal cavity that could impair renal function and hemodynamic through compression of renal structures. The major purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between RSF accumulation and renal dysfunction in CKD patients.

Galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) influences postural control by stimulating vestibular organ. Although several studies have focused on GVS in static postures, no studies have demonstrated the influence of GVS on righting reactions.

To date, there is insufficient evidence regarding the association between DRESS/DIHS and serum levels of vancomycin (VCM). Here, we report the case of a 46-year-old woman undergoing peritoneal dialysis who developed VCM-induced DRESS/DIHS.

Here, we evaluate the interrelationships among BAT, very-low-density lipoprotein triglyceride (VLDL-TG), and free fatty acid (FFA) plasma kinetics during thermoneutrality in women with overweight/obesity who had a low (<20 mL) or high (≥20 mL) volume of cold-activated BAT (assessed by using positron emission tomography in conjunction with 2-deoxy-2-[F]-fluoro-glucose). We find that plasma TG and FFA concentrations are lower and VLDL-TG and FFA plasma clearance rates are faster in women with high BAT than low BAT volume, whereas VLDL-TG and FFA appearance rates in plasma are not different between the two groups.

Accumulating evidence from both rodents and humans suggests that the levels of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), a regulator of many biological processes, declines in multiple organs and tissues with aging and obesity. Administration of an NAD intermediate, nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), replenishes intracellular NAD levels and mitigates aging- and obesity-associated derangements in animal models.

Introduction: Infrared (IR) lasers are being tested as an alternative to radiofrequency (RF) and ultrasonic (US) surgical devices for hemostatic sealing of vascular tissues. In previous studies, a side-firing optical fiber with elliptical IR beam output was reciprocated, producing a linear IR laser beam pattern for uniform sealing of blood vessels. Technical challenges include limited field-of-view of vessel position within the metallic device jaws, and matching fiber scan length to variable vessel sizes.

However, the existence of MHO has been questioned because people with MHO are at greater risk of developing diabetes and fatal cardiovascular disease than people who are lean and healthy. Here we report findings from a 25-year-old woman with rigorously defined MHO (normal oral glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity [assessed using the hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp procedure], plasma triglyceride, and intrahepatic triglyceride content) evaluated at baseline (body mass index, 37.
