Background And Objective: The identification of factors associated with long-term prognosis after community-onset pneumonia in elderly patients should be considered when initiating advance care planning (ACP). We aimed to identify these factors and develop a prediction score model.
Methods: Patients aged 65 years and older, who were hospitalized for pneumonia at nine collaborating institutions, were included.
Dietary factors, particularly proteins, have been extensively explored to combat cognitive impairment. We have previously reported that dietary fish (Alaska Pollock) protein (APP) is more effective than casein (CAS) or fish oil in maintaining short-term memory in senescence-accelerated mice prone 10 (SAMP10). PSEN1 mutations affect amyloid-beta peptide production, which accumulates in the brain as senile plaque and cotton wool plaques (CWPs) and relates to other neurodegenerative disorders. Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the proposed name change for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This study aimed to investigate the association of cardiovascular disease risk with MASLD and NAFLD in patients who underwent clinically indicated coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA).
Methods: This retrospective study included 2289 patients (60% men; mean age: 68 years) with no history of coronary artery disease who underwent CCTA.
Removal of somatic histone H3 lysine 9 trimethylation (H3K9me3) from the embryonic genome can improve the efficiency of mammalian cloning using somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). However, this strategy involves the injection of histone demethylase mRNA into embryos, which is limiting because of its invasive and labor-consuming nature. Here, we report that treatment with an inhibitor of G9a (G9ai), the major histone methyltransferase that introduces H3K9me1/2 in mammals, greatly improved the development of mouse SCNT embryos.

Methods: We retrospectively collected clinical and microbiological data on hospitalized patients with SAB from 14 hospitals (three with > 600, two with 401-600, five with 201-400, and four with ≤ 200 beds) in Japan from January to December 2022. The SAB management quality was evaluated using the SAB-QI score (ranging from 0 to 13 points), which consists of 13 QIs (grouped into five categories) based on previous literature.

Methods: All primary double-bundle ACL reconstructions using hamstring autografts between 2016 and 2021 were evaluated retrospectively. Patients with RLs without other meniscal injuries were included in group R, whereas those with isolated ACL injuries constituted group C.
A 70-year-old female, diagnosed with mitochondrial diabetes mellitus (MDM) showing previously a point mutation at mitochondrial DNA 3316G>A, noticed urinary tract infection and diabetic gangrene of the foot with Gram-negative bacteremia, followed by aggressive jaundice with high serum level of direct bilirubin. She died two months after the symptom onset. At autopsy, multiple foci of bacteremia-induced hemorrhagic infarction were observed in the congestive bilateral lungs, whereas the cholestatic liver revealed no overt gross cholangiectasis.
