As the population ages, the prevalence of age-related frailty increases sharply, which increases the risk of poor health status of older adults, such as disability, falls, hospitalization, and death. Across the globe, frailty is moving toward the forefront of health and medical research. Currently, frailty is believed to be preventable and reversible, so the early identification of frailty is critical.

Calcite is a promising material choice for adsorbing phosphates because of its abundance and environmentally benign nature. However, the slow adsorption kinetics and hence low adsorption capacity within a short time frame hinders its practical application. In this work, we solve these problems by presenting a low Mg-doped calcite adsorbent, Mg-10.

Biomass holds significant potential for large-scale synthesis of hard carbon (HC), and HC is seen as the most promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, designing a HC anode with a rich pore structure, moderate graphitization and synthesis through a simple process using a cost-effective precursor to advance SIBs has long been a formidable challenge. This is primarily because high temperatures necessary for pore regulation invariably lead to excessive graphitization.

Lung adenocarcinoma, a subtype of lung cancer, is produced by uncontrolled proliferation of somatic cells affected by some tumorigenic factors. The origin of this disease can be attributed to the concept of "cancer driver," which links the occurrence of tumor with specific changes in some key genes. These key genes can be identified at various molecular levels.

The directional assembly of porous organic molecules into long-range ordered architectures, featuring controlled hierarchical porosity and oriented pore channels with defined spatial arrangements, is a fundamental challenge in chemistry and materials science. Herein, using porous organic cages as starting units, we present a cooperative multiscale-assembly strategy enabling the simultaneous alignment of pore channels and directional hierarchical growth in a single step. At the microscopic level, we employed double solvents to manipulate the intermolecular packing of microporous tetrahedral [4+6] imine cages (CC1 and CC3), resulting in pore channel orientation.

Using the Bρ-defined isochronous mass spectrometry technique, we report the first determination of the ^{23}Si, ^{26}P, ^{27}S, and ^{31}Ar masses and improve the precision of the ^{28}S mass by a factor of 11. Our measurements confirm that these isotopes are bound and fix the location of the proton dripline in P, S, and Ar. We find that the mirror energy differences of the mirror-nuclei pairs ^{26}P-^{26}Na, ^{27}P-^{27}Mg, ^{27}S-^{27}Na, ^{28}S-^{28}Mg, and ^{31}Ar-^{31}Al deviate significantly from the values predicted assuming mirror symmetry.

In-plane heterostructures exhibit extraordinary chemical and electron transfer properties, which have received remarkable research attention. However, the synthesis of an in-plane MoC/MoO heterostructure has been rarely reported, and the deep investigation of the effect of its fine structure on reactivity is of great significance. Notably, the in-plane heterostructures endow the material with abundant grain boundaries, which facilitate the formation of surface acid sites and active oxygen species, thus contributing to the sensing performance.

Moiré materials host a wealth of intertwined correlated and topological states of matter, all arising from flat electronic bands with nontrivial quantum geometry. A prominent example is the family of alternating-twist magic-angle graphene stacks, which exhibit symmetry-broken states at rational fillings of the moiré band and superconductivity close to half filling. Here, we introduce a second family of twisted graphene multilayers made up of twisted sheets of M- and N-layer Bernal-stacked graphene flakes.

Article Synopsis
  • The standard model for fractional quantum anomalous Hall (FQAH) effect typically assumes a flat and isolated Chern band, but this study questions that view by focusing on pentalayer graphene aligned with hexagonal boron nitride.
  • Through advanced calculations, researchers found that interaction effects produce a significant band gap, leading to stable FQAH states even without the moiré superlattice potential.
  • The findings suggest that the QAH insulator at filling ν=1 behaves like an interaction-driven topological Wigner crystal, inviting further exploration of topology and FQAH in systems with low moiré potential.
