Spent LiNiCoMnO (x + y + z = 1) and polyethylene terephthalate are major solid wastes due to the growing Li-ion battery market and widespread plastic usage. Here we propose a synergistic pyrolysis strategy to recover valuable metals by thermally treating LiNiCoMnO and polyethylene terephthalate. With polyethylene terephthalate assistance, LiNiCoMnO decomposes at 400 °C, and fully converts to LiCO, MnO, and Ni-Co alloy at 550 °C within 30 min, using a 1.

Full-field transmission X-ray microscopy (TXM) in conjunction with X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy provides two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) morphological and chemical-specific information within samples at the tens of nanometer scale. This technique has a broad range of applications in materials sciences and battery research. Despite its extensive applicability, 2D XANES imaging is subject to the disadvantage of information overlap when the sample thickness is uneven.

5-Methyluridine (5-MU) is a prominent intermediate for industrial synthesis of several antiviral-drugs, however, its availability over the past decades has overwhelmingly relied on chemical and enzymatic strategies. Here, we have realized efficient production of 5-MU in E. coli, for the first time, via a designer artificial pathway consisting of a two-enzyme cascade (UMP 5-methylase and phosphatase).

Background: Despite recent progresses in immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) in small-cell lung cancer (SCLC), a lack of understanding regarding the systemic tumor immune environment (STIE) and local tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) makes it difficult to accurately predict clinical outcomes and identify potential beneficiaries from ICB therapy.

Methods: We enrolled 191 patients with stage I-III SCLC and comprehensively evaluated the prognostic role of STIE by several quantitative measurements, and further integrate it with a local immune score system (LISS) established by eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) machine learning algorithm. We also test the value of STIE in beneficiary selection in our independent advanced SCLC cohort receiving programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) blockade therapy.

Classical and quantum space-to-ground communications necessitate highly sensitive receivers capable of extracting information from modulated photons to extend the communication distance from near-earth orbits to deep space explorations. To achieve gigabit data rates while mitigating strong background noise photons and beam drift in a highly attenuated free-space channel, a comprehensive design of a multi-functional detector is indispensable. In this study, we present an innovative compact multi-pixel superconducting nanowire single-photon detector array that integrates near-unity detection efficiency (91.

Background: Patients harboring anaplastic lymphoma kinase () or rearranged during transfection () rearrangements are usually diagnosed at a relatively late stage with nodal and distant metastasis, and rapid progression course of / fusion-positive lung cancer were well-known. However, clinical characteristics and course of pre-/minimally invasive lung adenocarcinoma harboring or fusions are poorly described. Identifying patients with gene fusions at early stage may offer surgical options that could cure those patients.

Introduction: Hysterectomy is the most common surgical procedure in the field of gynaecology. The traditional multiport laparoscopy, transumbilical laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (TU-LESS) and transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) hysterectomy approaches have been implemented to varying degrees in clinical practice. At present, although their feasibility has been proven, there are no large randomised controlled studies on postoperative rehabilitation.

Tryptophan and its derivatives perform a variety of biological functions; however, the role and specific mechanism of many tryptophan derivatives in intestinal inflammation remain largely unclear. Here, we identified that an strain (TMU) isolated from the feces of tinidazole-treated individuals, and indole-3-lactic acid (ILA) in its supernatant, decreased the susceptibility of mice to dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis. TMU and ILA contribute to the relief of colitis by inhibiting the production of epithelial CCL2/7, thereby reducing the accumulation of inflammatory macrophages in vitro and in vivo.

Resolving inflammation and promoting intestinal tissue regeneration are critical for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) treatment. Bioactive glass (BG) is a clinically approved bone graft material and has been shown to modulate inflammatory response, but it is unknown whether BG can be applied to treat IBD. Here, it is reported that BG attenuates pro-inflammatory response of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated macrophages and hence reduces inflammatory damage to intestinal organoids in vitro.
