We introduce the radially polarized Airy vortex beams (RPAiVBs) and analytically study their propagation in uniaxial crystals orthogonal to the optical axis. We mainly discuss the effects of the vortex and the ratio of the extraordinary index (n) to the ordinary index (n) on the propagation properties of the RPAiVBs involving the intensity distributions, the maximum intensity, the radiation forces, the trajectory, and the velocity. The RPAiVBs evolve into the beams produced by the x direction electric field (RPAiXVB) and the y direction electric field (RPAiYVB).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Platinum-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy is the standard of care for patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Additional gemcitabine and cisplatin induction chemotherapy has shown promising efficacy in phase 2 trials.
Methods: In a parallel-group, multicenter, randomized, controlled, phase 3 trial, we compared gemcitabine and cisplatin as induction chemotherapy plus concurrent chemoradiotherapy with concurrent chemoradiotherapy alone.
Background: In 2017, surveillance for tickborne diseases in China led to the identification of a patient who presented to a hospital in Inner Mongolia with a febrile illness that had an unknown cause. The clinical manifestation of the illness was similar to that of tickborne encephalitis virus (TBEV) infection, but neither TBEV RNA nor antibodies against the virus were detected.
Methods: We obtained a blood specimen from the index patient and attempted to isolate and identify a causative pathogen, using genome sequence analysis and electron microscopy.

N-linked glycosylation is one of the most common protein PTMs, and the topological structure (monosaccharide composition and sequence as well as glycosidic linkages) of N-glycans is vital information to understand their biological functions and roles. Tandem mass spectrometry has been widely used for topological structure characterization of N-glycans, where comprehensive understanding of fragmentation pathways and characteristics of product ions are essential to achieve best interpretation of MS/MS data and highest confidence of identification. Here, we report our glycomic study of N-glycome of mouse brain as well as fragmentation pathway analysis of the identified N-glycans.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective- Transcription factor GATA (GATA zinc finger transcription factor family)-6 is highly expressed in vessels and rapidly downregulated in balloon-injured carotid arteries and viral delivery of GATA-6 to the vessels limited the neointimal formation, however, little is known about its cell-specific regulation of in vivo vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) phenotypic state contributing to neointimal formation. This study aims to determine the role of vascular cell-specific GATA-6 in ligation- or injury-induced neointimal hyperplasia in vivo. Approach and Results- Endothelial cell and VSMC-specific GATA-6 deletion mice are generated, and the results indicate that endothelial cell-specific GATA-6 deletion mice exhibit significant decrease of VSMC proliferation and attenuation of neointimal formation after artery ligation and injury compared with the wild-type littermate control mice.

Here, we identify the prototypical pyranonaphthoquinone natural product frenolicin B (FB) as a selective inhibitor of Prx1 and Grx3 through covalent modification of active-site cysteines. FB-targeted inhibition of Prx1 and Grx3 results in a decrease in cellular glutathione levels, an increase of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and concomitant inhibition of cancer cell growth, largely by activating the peroxisome-bound tuberous sclerosis complex to inhibit mTORC1/4E-BP1 signaling axis.

Background And Purpose: Both C-methionine PET/CT and DSC-PWI could be used to differentiate radiation injury from recurrent brain tumors. Our aim was to assess the performance of MET PET/CT and DSC-PWI for differentiation of recurrence and radiation injury in patients with high-grade gliomas and to quantitatively analyze the diagnostic values of PET and PWI parameters.
Materials And Methods: Forty-two patients with high-grade gliomas were enrolled in this study.
Background: Recent studies have demonstrated the tremendous potential of epicardial fat volume (EFV) to predict obstructive coronary artery disease. We aimed to develop a new model to estimate pretest probability of obstructive coronary artery disease using traditional risk factors with coronary calcium score and EFV and compare it with proposed models in Chinese patients who underwent coronary computed tomography angiography.
Methods: The new models were derived from 5743 consecutive patients using multivariate logistic regression and validated in an internal cohort using invasive coronary angiography as the outcome and an external cohort with clinical outcome data.
Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a fatal lung disease caused by the progressive remodeling of small pulmonary arteries (PAs). Sildenafil can prevent the remodeling of PAs, but conventional sildenafil formulations have shown limited treatment efficacy for their poor accumulation in PAs. Here, glucuronic acid (GlcA)-modified liposomes (GlcA-Lips) were developed to improve the delivery of sildenafil to aberrant over-proliferative PA smooth muscle cells via targeting the GLUT-1 (glucose transport-1), and, therefore, inhibiting the remodeling of PAs in a monocrotaline-induced PA hypertension model.
