SARS-CoV-2 spread in humans results in continuous emergence of new variants, highlighting the need for vaccines with broad-spectrum antigenic coverage. Using inter-lineage chimera and mutation-patch strategies, we engineered a recombinant monomeric spike variant (STFK1628x) that contains key regions and residues across multiple SAR-CoV-2 variants. The basalt fiber (BF) and polyamide 6 (PA6) reinforced HDPE composite were prepared; the effects of adding fiber, organic filler, and polar component maleic anhydride (MA) on the microstructural characteristics of composites were investigated. Microstructural characterization evidenced the binary-dispersed phase (PA6/BF) is of a core-shell structure in which the component PA6 encapsulates component BF, and the extent of encapsulates would decline with the MA adding. It is confirmed that the microstructure is related to the interfacial tension of components by the SEM observation and theoretical calculation.

This work aims to investigate how the bile acid metabolism of newborns differs from that of adults along the axis of primary, secondary, and tertiary bile acids (BAs). The total unconjugated BA profiles were quantitatively determined by enzyme digestion techniques in urine of 21 newborns born by cesarean section, 29 healthy parturient women, 30 healthy males, and 28 healthy nonpregnant females. As expected, because of a lack of developed gut microbiota, newborns exhibited poor metabolism of secondary BAs.

Mouse embryonic stem cells derived from the epiblast contribute to the somatic lineages and the germline but are excluded from the extra-embryonic tissues that are derived from the trophectoderm and the primitive endoderm upon reintroduction to the blastocyst. Here we report that cultures of expanded potential stem cells can be established from individual eight-cell blastomeres, and by direct conversion of mouse embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells. Remarkably, a single expanded potential stem cell can contribute both to the embryo proper and to the trophectoderm lineages in a chimaera assay.

Smad4, a key transcription factor in the transforming growth factor- signaling pathway, is involved in a variety of cell physiologic and pathologic processes. Here, we characterized megakaryocyte/platelet-specific Smad4 deficiency in mice to elucidate its effect on platelet function. We found that megakaryocyte/platelet-specific loss of Smad4 caused mild thrombocytopenia and significantly extended first occlusion time and tail bleeding time in mice.

Background: Tissue factor (TF) and coagulation proteases are involved in promoting atherosclerosis, but the molecular and cellular bases for their involvement are unknown.

Methods And Results: We generated a new strain (ApX4) of apolipoprotein E-deficient mice expressing a membrane-tethered human tissue factor pathway inhibitor fusion protein on smooth muscle actin-positive cells, including vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs). ApX4 mice developed little atherosclerosis on either a normal chow or high-fat diet.
