Aims/introduction: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common complication of diabetes that can lead to poor vision and blindness. This study aimed to explore the mechanism of action of miR-130a-3p in DR progression.
Materials And Methods: In this study, we administered a single intraperitoneal injection of 100 mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ) to construct a DR mouse model, and induced a human monocyte cell line (THP-1) to differentiate into M0 macrophages, after which the M0 macrophages were cultured with 30 mM high glucose (HG) as a model of inflammation.
T-ALL is caused by abnormal proliferation of T cells. It comprises 25%-50% of ALL cases in children and adults. Outlook for R/R T-ALL/LBL and patients over 60 is even dimmer.

is a genus of hazardous pathogens that has caused over 30 outbreaks. However, currently approved therapies are limited in scope, as they are only effective against the Ebola virus and lack cross-protection against other orthoebolaviruses. Here, we demonstrate that a previously isolated human-derived antibody, 2G1, can recognize the glycoprotein (GP) of every orthoebolavirus species.

Here, we used MALDI-TOF MS with artificial intelligence (AI) approaches to successfully predict AMR in , a priority pathogen with complex AMR mechanisms. The highest performance was achieved for modern β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor drugs, namely, ceftazidime/avibactam and ceftolozane/tazobactam.

Design: Prospective, clinical observational cohort study with 2- to 4-year follow-up.
Methods: A total of 1043 eyes of 563 participants (3515 medical records) aged 18 to 50 years with nonpathologic high myopia (axial length [AL] ≥ 26 mm; myopic maculopathy < diffuse chorioretinal atrophy; without posterior staphyloma) were included from 1546 participants (6318 medical records).
Background: Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) has endocrine-disrupting properties and may affect blood pressure. Endogenous hormones also play a crucial role in the progression of hypertension. However, their interaction with hypertension remains to be explored.

Here, we synthesize programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) antibody-iRGD cyclic peptide conjugate (αPD-1-(iRGD)) through glycoengineering methods. In addition to enhancing tissue penetration, αPD-1-(iRGD) simultaneously engages tumor cells and PD-1 T cells via dual targeting, thus mediating tumor-specific T cell activation and proliferation with mild effects on non-specific T cells.

Whether very early blood-pressure control in the ambulance improves outcomes among patients with undifferentiated acute stroke is uncertain.
Methods: We randomly assigned patients with suspected acute stroke that caused a motor deficit and with elevated systolic blood pressure (≥150 mm Hg), who were assessed in the ambulance within 2 hours after the onset of symptoms, to receive immediate treatment to lower the systolic blood pressure (target range, 130 to 140 mm Hg) (intervention group) or usual blood-pressure management (usual-care group).
Hyperuricemia is an essential causal risk factor for gout and is associated with cardiometabolic diseases. Given the limited contribution of East Asian ancestry to genome-wide association studies of serum urate, the genetic architecture of serum urate requires exploration. A large-scale cross-ancestry genome-wide association meta-analysis of 1,029,323 individuals and ancestry-specific meta-analysis identifies a total of 351 loci, including 17 previously unreported loci.

Dialkyl sulfates, such as dimethyl sulfate and diisopropyl sulfate are commonly used as alkylation agents in alkaline conditions, and result in the formation of sulfate byproducts. We report herein a general and robust approach to O-sulfation by harnessing the tunable reactivity of dimethyl sulfate or diisopropyl sulfate under tetrabutylammonium bisulfate activation.

The purpose of this research was to investigate Cordyceps cicadae as a potential therapeutic target for treating inflammatory responses, oxidative stress, and fibrosis in LN.
Methods: The effects of C.
Introduction: Liver fibrosis results from chronic liver injury and inflammation, often leading to cirrhosis, liver failure, portal hypertension, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Progress has been made in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying hepatic fibrosis; however, translating this knowledge into effective therapies for disease regression remains a challenge, with considerably few interventions having entered clinical validation. The roles of exosomes during fibrogenesis and their potential as a therapeutic approach for reversing fibrosis have gained significant interest.

We have systematically reviewed ESCC prediction models applicable to the general population and performed external validation and head-to-head comparisons in a large multicenter prospective cohort including 5 high-risk areas of China (Fei Cheng, Lin Zhou, Ci Xian, Yang Zhong, and Yan Ting).
Methods: Models were identified through a systematic review and validated in a large population-based multicenter prospective cohort that included 89,753 participants aged 40-69 years who underwent their first endoscopic examination between April 2017 and March 2021 and were followed up until December 31, 2022.
Multimodal epigenetic characterization of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) could improve the performance of blood-based early cancer detection. However, integrative profiling of cfDNA methylome and fragmentome has been technologically challenging. Here, we adapt an enzyme-mediated methylation sequencing method for comprehensive analysis of genome-wide cfDNA methylation, fragmentation, and copy number alteration (CNA) characteristics for enhanced cancer detection.

Antibiotic prophylaxis may reduce the risk of infectious complications after ERCP; however, the clinical value of prophylactic antibiotics in ERCP remains controversial.
Methods: We conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial to investigate whether the use of prophylactic antibiotics would reduce infectious complications after ERCP in patients with biliary obstruction.
Many of the currently available COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics are not effective against newly emerged SARS-CoV-2 variants. Here, we developed the metallo-enzyme domain of angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)-the cellular receptor of SARS-CoV-2-into an IgM-like inhalable molecule (HH-120). HH-120 binds to the SARS-CoV-2 Spike (S) protein with high avidity and confers potent and broad-spectrum neutralization activity against all known SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern.

Methods: In a multicenter trial in China, we enrolled patients with ischemic stroke without occlusion of large or medium-sized vessels and with a National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score of 5 or more and at least one moderately to severely weak limb. Eligible patients had any of four clinical presentations: ineligible for thrombolysis or thrombectomy and within 24 hours after the patient was last known to be well; progression of stroke symptoms 24 to 96 hours after onset; early neurologic deterioration after thrombolysis; or thrombolysis with no improvement at 4 to 24 hours.
Background: The role of endovascular therapy for acute stroke with a large infarction has not been extensively studied in differing populations.
Methods: We conducted a multicenter, prospective, open-label, randomized trial in China involving patients with acute large-vessel occlusion in the anterior circulation and an Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score of 3 to 5 (range, 0 to 10, with lower values indicating larger infarction) or an infarct-core volume of 70 to 100 ml. Patients were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio within 24 hours from the time they were last known to be well to undergo endovascular therapy and receive medical management or to receive medical management alone.

Autophagy is closely associated with various pathophysiological processes in osteoblasts, while its role in oxidative stress is even more critical. However, there is still no clear understanding of the mechanism of the role of autophagy in the regulation of osteoblast mineralization and apoptosis under oxidative stress by PBM.
