Article Synopsis
  • An error grid is a tool that helps compare glucose levels measured by devices to see if they are correct and to identify any risks.
  • Experts created a new error grid called the DTS Error Grid that works for both blood glucose monitors (BGMs) and continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), organizing accuracy into five risk zones.
  • The results showed that the DTS Error Grid provides a clearer picture of how accurate these devices are and includes a separate matrix to evaluate how well CGMs track glucose trends over time.

Article Synopsis
  • Iron significantly enhances the performance of nickel/cobalt (hydr)oxides as catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction, with ongoing debates about the synergistic effects.
  • Research shows that active oxygen species play a crucial role in the electrochemical interaction between iron oxides and supporting metal oxyhydroxides.
  • Findings indicate that the production of active oxygen species correlates with better catalytic performance, while also identifying their role in proton transfer during the reaction process.

The repeated emergence of highly pathogenic human coronaviruses as well as their evolving variants highlight the need to develop potent and broad-spectrum antiviral therapeutics and vaccines. By screening monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) isolated from COVID-19-convalescent patients, we found one mAb, 2-36, with cross-neutralizing activity against SARS-CoV. We solved the cryo-EM structure of 2-36 in complex with SARS-CoV-2 or SARS-CoV spike, revealing a highly conserved epitope in the receptor-binding domain (RBD).

The objective of this phase 1 study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics, safety, and tolerability of baricitinib after single and multiple doses in healthy Chinese adults. Eligible subjects received a once-daily dose of baricitinib 2, 4, or 10 mg or placebo on day 1 (single dose) and days 4 through 10 for 7 consecutive days (multiple doses). Plasma pharmacokinetic samples were collected up to 48 hours after dosing on days 1 and 10, with predose samples collected before dosing on day 1 and days 4 through 10.

Pregnant women at risk of preterm labor usually receive synthetic glucocorticoids (sGCs) to promote fetal lung development. Emerging evidence indicates that antenatal sGC increases the risk of affective disorders in offspring. Data from animal studies show that such disorders can be transmitted to the second generation.

Fresh apples are typically stored for up to 1 year commercially; different apple varieties require different storage temperatures to maintain their quality characteristics. There is sparse information available about survival on fresh apples under various storage temperatures. The objective of this study was to comprehensively evaluate the effect of storage temperature on apple fruit decay and survival.

Context: The elevated low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in menopausal women is associated with higher risks of cardiovascular diseases.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the influence and mechanism by which high postmenopausal FSH levels affect lipid profiles.

Methods: The serum FSH and lipid levels were examined in 400 Chinese postmenopausal women.

Context: The cardiovascular dysfunction in children born with assisted reproductive technologies has been of great concern. However, the association of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), a complication of assisted reproductive technologies, with worse cardiovascular functions and underlying mechanism remains unknown.

Objectives: The objective of the study was to assess the cardiovascular functions of children born to mothers with OHSS and investigate the underlying regulator(s).

Background: Small-conductance, Ca(2+)-activated K(+) channel 3 (SK3) has been shown to be expressed in porcine endometrium. However, the roles of SK3 in human endometrium during the menstrual cycle and early pregnancy are unknown.

Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate the expression and function of SK3 in human endometrium and the mechanism involved.

Context: There are increasing concerns that a disrupted endocrine environment may disturb the growth of the fetus. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) situates gamete/embryo in a supraphysiological estradiol (E2) environment and, thus, provides an ideal model to investigate this problem.

Objective: Our objective was to investigate whether the maternal high-E2 environment in the first trimester increases the risks of low birth weight (LBW) and small-for-gestational-age (SGA) birth.
