Background: Evaluating left ventricular diastolic function (LVDF) is crucial in echocardiography; however, the complexity and time demands of current guidelines challenge clinical use. This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based framework for automatic LVDF assessment to reduce subjectivity and improve accuracy and outcome prediction.
Methods: We developed an AI-based LVDF assessment framework using a nationwide echocardiographic dataset from five tertiary hospitals.
Background: Phenome-wide association studies (PheWASs) have been conducted on Asian populations, including Koreans, but many were based on chip or exome genotyping data. Such studies have limitations regarding whole genome-wide association analysis, making it crucial to have genome-to-phenome association information with the largest possible whole genome and matched phenome data to conduct further population-genome studies and develop health care services based on population genomics.
Results: Here, we present 4,157 whole genome sequences (Korea4K) coupled with 107 health check-up parameters as the largest genomic resource of the Korean Genome Project.
Purpose: To investigate the correlation between optic disc hemorrhage (DH) size and glaucoma progression.
Design: A retrospective observational cohort study METHODS: SETTING: A single tertiary hospital in South Korea STUDY POPULATION: Two hundred and fifty (250) open-angle glaucoma (OAG) patients with DH. Participants were followed for 5 years or longer, with a minimum of 5 visual field (VF) tests.
Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a severe liver metabolic disorder, however, there are still no effective and safe drugs for its treatment. Previous clinical trials used various therapeutic approaches to target individual pathologic mechanisms, but these approaches were unsuccessful because of the complex pathologic causes of NASH. Combinatory therapy in which two or more drugs are administered simultaneously to patients with NASH, however, carries the risk of side effects associated with each individual drug.

The goal of this study was to verify the accuracy of automated sleep-stage scoring based on a deep learning algorithm compared to manual sleep-stage scoring.

CMT type 1A (CMT1A) accounts for approximately 50% of CMT patients and is linked to PMP22 gene duplication. Histone deacetylase-6 (HDAC6) has pleiotropic effects, such as regulating lipid homeostasis and cellular stress.

Purpose: To investigate the intraocular distribution and kinetics of antibodies and nanoparticles in the experimental model.
Methods: Antibodies (whole IgG 149kDa, antigen-binding fragments 48.39 kDa) and four kinds of nondegradable nanoparticles (25, 50, 200, and 250 nm) were intravitreally injected in the right eye of New Zealand white rabbits.
Modulation of Wnt signaling has untapped potential in regenerative medicine due to its essential functions in stem cell homeostasis. However, Wnt lipidation and Wnt-Frizzled (Fzd) cross-reactivity have hindered translational Wnt applications. Here, we designed and engineered water-soluble, Fzd subtype-specific "next-generation surrogate" (NGS) Wnts that hetero-dimerize Fzd and Lrp6.

The incidences of various esophageal diseases (e.g., congenital esophageal stenosis, tracheoesophageal fistula, esophageal atresia, esophageal cancer) are increasing, but esophageal tissue is difficult to be recovered because of its weak regenerative capability.

Objectives: We sought to demonstrate in an animal model that helical stents made from a nickel titanium alloy called nitinol (NiTi) and designed for malacic airways could be delivered and removed without significant trauma while minimally impeding mucus clearance during the period of implantation.
Methods: Stents were delivered and removed from the tracheas of healthy 20 kg swine (n = 5) using tools designed to minimize trauma. In 4-week experiments, the stents were implanted on day 0, removed after 3 weeks, and swine were put to death after 4 weeks.
Exosomes are nano-sized membranous vesicles produced by nearly all types of cells. Since exosome-like vesicles are produced in an evolutionarily conserved manner for information and function transfer from the originating cells to recipient cells, an increasing number of studies have focused on their application as therapeutic agents, drug delivery vehicles, and diagnostic targets. Analysis of the in vivo distribution of exosomes is a prerequisite for the development of exosome-based therapeutics and drug delivery vehicles with accurate prediction of therapeutic dose and potential side effects.

HGM is associated with long-term diabetic vascular complications in type 1 and type 2 diabetes, although the molecular mechanism of that association is not clearly understood. We hypothesized that transglutaminase 2 (TGase2) and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a key role in HGM-induced vascular dysfunction.

We hypothesized that diagnostic performance and unnecessary biopsy rates of different guidelines are largely determined by different thyroid size thresholds used as cutoff values that determine when to biopsy a thyroid nodule. Purpose To compare the malignancy risk, diagnostic performance, and unnecessary biopsy rates of three guidelines and evaluate the changes according to the nodule size cutoff for biopsy.

However, the effects of soybean fermentation on the bioavailability and the antiosteoporotic effect have not yet been elucidated. To address this question, we fed ovariectomized C57BL/6J mice with a 5% nonfermented raw soybean (RS)- or fermented soybean (FS)-supplemented diet.

We investigated hyperglycemia-mediated pulmonary vascular leakage and metastasis and C-peptide inhibition of these molecular events using human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (HPMVECs) and streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. VEGF, which is elevated in the lungs of diabetic mice, activated transglutaminase 2 (TGase2) in HPMVECs by sequential elevation of intracellular Ca and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels.

Midazolam inhibited VEGF-induced elevation of intracellular Ca, generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and transglutaminase activation in HRECs; these effects were reversed by the GABA, type A (GABA) receptor antagonist flumazenil but not by the translocator protein antagonist PK11195. Midazolam also prevented VEGF-induced disassembly of adherens junctions and in vitro permeability.

We evaluated a new approach to OCT image-based computation modeling, which can be used to estimate the fractional flow reserve (FFR) in patients with intermediate coronary stenosis.
Methods And Results: Ninety-two patients with intermediate diameter stenosis in the left anterior descending artery underwent both FFR measurement with pressure wires and OCT examination.
