Medical image denoising faces great challenges. Although deep learning methods have shown great potential, their efficiency is severely affected by millions of trainable parameters. The non-linearity of neural networks also makes them difficult to be understood.

Due to the high effectiveness of cancer screening and therapies, the diagnosis of second primary cancers (SPCs) has increased in women with endometrial cancer (EC). However, previous studies providing adequate evidence to support screening for SPCs in endometrial cancer are lacking. This study aimed to develop effective risk prediction models of second primary endometrial cancer (SPEC) in women with obesity (body mass index (BMI) > 25) and included datasets on the incidence of SPEC and the other risks of SPEC in 4480 primary cancer survivors from a hospital-based cancer registry database.

Objective: This study investigated the cost-effectiveness of a community-based colorectal cancer-screening program (C-CRCSP) in Shanghai, China, among the residents in the urban, suburban and rural areas.

Methods: A Markov model was constructed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of a 25-year annual C-CRCSP including 100 000 populations. Cost-effectiveness was determined by the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER); referring to either life-years gained, or quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) gained.

The chemokine CCL5 is considered to be a potential therapeutic target because of its ability to recruit immune cells to inflammatory sites. CCL5 aggregates under physiological conditions, and high-order oligomer formation is considered to be significant for cell migration, immune-cell activation and HIV cell entry. The structure of the high-order oligomer is unknown and the mechanism by which the oligomer is derived has yet to be established.

Article Synopsis
  • Cervical cancer is a major health issue in the Philippines, being the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women, with HPV vaccination offering protection.
  • Two HPV vaccines have been approved for use in a new 2-dose schedule, which led to a study evaluating the cost-effectiveness of vaccinating 13-year-old girls in conjunction with existing screening methods.
  • The study found that the AS04-HPV-16/18 vaccine was more effective and cost-efficient than the 4vHPV vaccine, preventing more cases of cervical cancer and resulting in lower overall costs.

Background: Serum cytokeratin fragment 21-1 (CYFRA 21-1) expression levels are reported to be useful in the diagnosis of lung cancer, especially non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the clinical value of CYFRA 21-1 as a tumor marker remains unclear, and no optimal cut-off value has been determined thus far. The purpose of this study was to establish a potential clinical cut-off value for serum CYFRA 21-1 as a diagnostic marker in patients with NSCLC.

Selaginella tamariscina is a traditional Chinese herb for the therapy of chronic trachitis and has been approved some anti-tumor activity. However, the anti-metastasis effects of Selaginella tamariscina in the lung cancer have not been understood clearly. The objectives of study were to investigate the effects of the Selaginella tamariscina extracts (STE) on the invasion and motility of highly metastatic A549 and Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) cells.
