Background: Blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity disruption is a key pathological link of diabetes-induced cognitive impairment (DCI), but the detailed mechanism of how the diabetic environment induces BBB integrity disruption is not fully understood. Our previous study found that Zi Shen Wan Fang (ZSWF), an optimized prescription consisting of Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Anemarrhena asphodeloides Bge.), Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex (Phellodendron chinense Schneid.

In 2021, Cambodia faced two major epidemic waves of SARS-CoV-2 triggered by the successive rise of the Alpha and Delta variants.
Methods: Phylodynamic analysis of 1,163 complete SARS-CoV-2 genomes from Cambodia, along with global sequences, were conducted between February and September 2021 to infer viral introductions, molecular epidemiology and population dynamics.
Selective degradation of cyclin-dependent kinases 12 and 13 (CDK12/13) emerges as a new potential therapeutic approach for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and other human cancers. While several proteolysis-targeting chimera (PROTAC) degraders of CDK12/13 were reported, none are orally bioavailable. Here, we report the discovery of as a potent, selective, and orally bioavailable CDK12/13 PROTAC degrader.

The ongoing debate revolves around whether this heterogeneity signifies a continuum of severity linked to a singular causative factor or a collection of distinct subtypes with unique origins. Within the realm of schizophrenia, the functional impairment of GluN2A, a subtype of the NMDA receptor, has been associated with an elevated risk.

Methods: Patients undergoing primary arthroscopic rotator cuff repair from April 1, 2020, to September 30, 2022, were enrolled. Those younger than 18 years, with a history of shoulder surgeries or shoulder infection episodes, or who declined participation were excluded.

Magnetic fluids, a new type of energy transfer fluid with tunable properties, have garnered significant interest from researchers worldwide. Hybrid magnetic fluids prepared by adding different types of nanoparticles exhibit superior thermophysical properties and functional characteristics. In this paper, we prepared a water-based magnetic fluid loaded with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MCNTs), silver (Ag), and copper (Cu) to enhance thermal conductivity.

However, the xenogenic Matrigel requires sophisticated quality-assurance processes to meet clinical requirements. In this study, we develop an innovative coating-free medium for expanding hPSCs.

Background: Variants in the gene, that encodes the cytoskeletal protein, dystrophin, cause a severe form of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) associated with high rates of heart failure, heart transplantation, and ventricular arrhythmias. Improved early detection of individuals at risk is needed.
Methods: Genetic testing of 40 male probands with a potential X-linked genetic cause of primary DCM was undertaken using multi-gene panel sequencing, multiplex polymerase chain reaction, and array comparative genomic hybridization.

As a result of the escalating number of new cancer treatments being developed and competition among pharmaceutical companies, decisions regarding how to proceed with phase III trials are frequently based on findings from either single-arm phase I expansion cohorts or phase II studies that compare the efficacy of the study drug to a standard-of-care benchmark derived from historical data. However, even when eligibility criteria are matched, differences in the distribution of baseline patient features may influence the outcome of single-arm trials in real-world scenarios. Therefore, novel methods are needed to enhance the accuracy of efficacy prediction from current cohorts relative to historical data.

Method: Plasma was collected from patients with active SLE who were enrolled in the British Isles Lupus Assessment Group Biologics Registry (BILAG-BR).

Objectives: Pediatric palliative care (PPC), especially among noncancer pediatric patients, faces challenges including late referral, limited patient care, and insufficient data for Asian patients.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study used the integrative hospital medical database between 2014 and 2018 to analyze the clinical characteristics, diagnoses, and end-of-life care for patients aged less than 20 who had died in our children's hospital, a tertiary referral medical center implementing PPC shared-care.
Results: In our cohort of 323 children, 240 (74.
Background Diabetes mellitus may be associated with an increased likelihood of CT contrast material-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI), but this has not been studied in a large sample with and without kidney dysfunction. Purpose To investigate whether diabetic status and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) are associated with the likelihood of acute kidney injury (AKI) following CT contrast material administration. Materials and Methods This retrospective multicenter study included patients from two academic medical centers and three regional hospitals who underwent contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) or noncontrast CT between January 2012 and December 2019.

Purpose To evaluate breast cancer screening outcomes with DBT versus DM on successive screening rounds. Materials and Methods In this retrospective cohort study, data from 58 breast imaging facilities in the Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium were collected.

LTBP4 (latent transforming growth factor beta binding protein 4) regulates transforming growth factor beta, which plays a role in renal fibrosis pathogenesis. We previously investigated the role of LTBP4 in chronic kidney disease.

In yeast, epigenetic information is lost over time due to the relocalization of chromatin-modifying proteins to DNA breaks, causing cells to lose their identity, a hallmark of yeast aging. Using a system called "ICE" (inducible changes to the epigenome), we find that the act of faithful DNA repair advances aging at physiological, cognitive, and molecular levels, including erosion of the epigenetic landscape, cellular exdifferentiation, senescence, and advancement of the DNA methylation clock, which can be reversed by OSK-mediated rejuvenation.

However, the thresholds to initiate BP-lowering treatment in this population are unclear. We aimed to examine the associations between BP levels and clinical outcomes and provide evidence on potential thresholds to initiate BP-lowering therapy in people with chronic kidney disease.
