In placental females, one copy of the two X chromosomes is largely silenced during a narrow developmental time window, in a process mediated by the non-coding RNA Xist. Here, we demonstrate that Xist can initiate X-chromosome inactivation (XCI) well beyond early embryogenesis. By modifying its endogenous level, we show that Xist has the capacity to actively silence genes that escape XCI both in neuronal progenitor cells (NPCs) and , in mouse embryos.

Educational attainment (EduYears), a heritable trait often used as a proxy for cognitive ability, is associated with various health and social outcomes. Previous genome-wide association studies (GWASs) on EduYears have been focused on samples of European (EUR) genetic ancestries. Here we present the first large-scale GWAS of EduYears in people of East Asian (EAS) ancestry (n = 176,400) and conduct a cross-ancestry meta-analysis with EduYears GWAS in people of EUR ancestry (n = 766,345).

Background: Data from clinical trials and real-world studies show that afatinib is effective in treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harboring activating mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor () gene. A previous analysis of patients enrolled in the Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease (KATRD) cohort showed that first-line afatinib was well tolerated and effectiveness results were encouraging. Long-term treatments for inflammatory skin diseases like atopic dermatitis or eczema can cause adverse effects. Super Protein Multifunction (SPM) was investigated as a potential treatment for managing skin inflammation by monitoring the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines induced using LPS and poly(I:C)/TNFα in HaCaT keratinocytes and Hs27 fibroblasts as measured via RT-PCR. SPM solution was also assessed for its effect on cytokine release, measured using ELISA, in a UVB-irradiated 3D human skin model.

Cancer immunotherapy has emerged as a promising approach for treating various malignancies. In this study, we investigated the combined therapeutic effects of mesenchymal stem cells expressing cytosine deaminase (MSC/CD) and 5-fluorocytosine (5-FC) with α-galactosylceramide (α-GalCer) in a colon cancer model. Our findings demonstrated that the combination of MSC/CD, 5-FC, and α-GalCer resulted in enhanced antitumor activity compared to the individual treatments.
