Functional nucleic acids constitute a distinct category of nucleic acids that diverge from conventional nucleic acid amplification methodologies. They are capable of forming intricate hybrid structures through Hoogsteen and reverse Hoogsteen hydrogen bonding interactions between double-stranded and single-stranded DNA, thereby broadening the spectrum of DNA interactions. In recent years, functional DNA/RNA-based surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has emerged as a potent platform capable of ultrasensitive and multiplexed detection of a variety of analytes of interest.

Effect and safety of sivelestat on acute severe pancreatitis with systemic inflammatory response syndrome: a retrospective study.

The study was to explore the efficacy and safety of sivelestat (SV) in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) with systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). A total of 102 SAP patients diagnosed and treated in the Emergency Intensive Care Unit of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2021 to August 2024 were selected. The changes of disease outcome, hospital stays and mortality were compared between the two groups.

The genetic association between polycystic ovary syndrome and the risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy: A Mendelian randomization study.

Objective: In observational studies, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been associated with an increased risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDPs); however, the causality between these conditions remains to be determined. This study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between PCOS and HDPs.

Methods: This genome-wide association study (GWAS), conducted from November to December 2023, aimed to investigate the causal relationships between PCOS and HDPs, gestational hypertension and preeclampsia/eclampsia via two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis.

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare, low-grade malignant condition that typically affects women of childbearing age and primarily involves the lungs. While cases involving males and affecting the gastrointestinal tract are exceedingly uncommon. This report discusses an unusual case of abdominal LAM in a male patient with gastrointestinal hemorrhage.

Nutrient recovery from aquaculture sludge is vital for promoting hydroponic plant growth and achieving near-zero solid waste discharge in aquaponic systems. Modified biological aerated filters (MBAFs) are promising because of the dual capabilities of aquaculture sludge collection and aerobic mineralization. However, the bioconversion kinetics, which is indirectly related to the packed media, need to be improved.
