Natural genetic variation in dynamic photosynthesis is correlated with stomatal anatomical traits in diverse tomato species across geographical habitats.

Plants grown under field conditions experience fluctuating light. Understanding the natural genetic variations for a similarly dynamic photosynthetic response among untapped germplasm resources, as well as the underlying mechanisms, may offer breeding strategies to improve production using molecular approaches. Here, we measured gas exchange under fluctuating light, along with stomatal density and size, in eight wild tomato species and two tomato cultivars.

Glazing Affects the Fermentation Process of Sake Brewed in Pottery.

Sake (Japanese rice wine) was fermented in pottery for more than a millennium before wooden barrels were adopted to obtain a greater brewing capacity. Although a recently conducted analysis of sake brewed in pottery indicated that sake brewed in unglazed pottery contains more ethanol than that brewed in glazed pottery, little is known about the characteristics of sake brewed in pottery. In this study, we used two types of ceramic containers of identical size, one glazed and one unglazed, for small-scale sake brewing to evaluate the effects of glazing on fermentation properties.

Alkalized lidocaine in a tapered cuff suppresses endotracheal tube-induced hemodynamic changes: a randomized controlled trial.

Purpose: The use of an endotracheal tube (ET) cuff filled with alkalized lidocaine (AL) can suppress ET-induced emergence phenomena, such as hypertension, tachycardia and coughing, and postoperative sore throat (POST) and hoarseness (PH). The efficacy of intracuff lidocaine may vary depending on the cuff shape, but there has been no study on the effects of a tapered cuff filled with AL. We examined whether intracuff AL suppresses ET-induced emergence phenomena, POST and PH.

[Pelvic Reconstruction in Abdominal Trachelectomy and Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy for Occult Uterine Endometrial Cancer Found in Specimens Removed in the Context of Laparoscopic Sacrocolpopexy].

In the patients undergoing pelvic organ prolapse (POP) repairs, the incidence of occult uterine endometrial cancer is low and there is no established management procedure for preoperative cancer screening. We report a case of pelvic reconstruction in abdominal trachelectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for occult uterine endometrial cancer found in specimens removed in the context of laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy (LSC). A 70-year-old woman presented to our center with cystocele.

TRPV1 is involved in abdominal hyperalgesia in a mouse model of lipopolysaccharide-induced peritonitis and influences the immune response via peripheral noradrenergic neurons.

Aims: The transient receptor potential vanilloid subfamily 1 (TRPV1) not only plays a role as a nociceptor but also has some regulatory effects on the immune system. We investigated the effects of TRPV1 on abdominal pain and the immune system in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced peritonitis and the association between TRPV1 and peripheral noradrenergic neurons.
