Recovery of Iodine in the Gaseous Phase Using the Silicone Hollow Fiber Membrane Module.

Iodine, being an important resource, must be recovered and reused. Iodine is not only attracted to the hydrophobic silicone membrane but also easily vaporized. In this study, we explored the use of five types of silicone hollow fiber membrane modules (SFMMs) for separating iodine in the gaseous phase.

Neuropathic pain in patients with osteoarthritis of the hip before and after total hip arthroplasty.

Objectives: The pain associated with osteoarthritis (OA) was thought to be nociceptive; however, neuropathic pain is also observed. We investigated the relationship between hip OA and neuropathic pain using the PainDETECT questionnaire (PDQ).

Methods: A total of 159 hips of 146 consecutive patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty (THA) with a diagnosis of OA were enrolled in this study.

Investigation of the possibility of using an augmented reality-based endotracheal aspiration simulation tool for nursing education.

Aim: We developed an augmented reality technology-based endotracheal aspiration simulation tool (the AR tool) consisting of three modes: a mode for nursing students to learn endotracheal aspiration by themselves (learning mode); a mode for repeated practice (practice mode); and a mode for confirmation testing (test mode). This study aimed to compare the learning outcomes of the AR tool with traditional training mannequins and identify potential uses and improvements of the AR tool.

Methods: We invited students, and faculty members from the three universities who agreed to cooperate in conducting this study.

Histone modification of pain-related gene expression in spinal cord neurons under a persistent postsurgical pain-like state by electrocautery.

Chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) is a serious problem. We developed a mouse model of CPSP induced by electrocautery and examined the mechanism of CPSP. In this mouse model, while both incision and electrocautery each produced acute allodynia, persistent allodynia was only observed after electrocautery.

Construction of an artificial system for ambrein biosynthesis and investigation of some biological activities of ambrein.

Ambergris, a sperm whale metabolite, has long been used as a fragrance and traditional medication, but it is now rarely available. The odor components of ambergris result from the photooxidative degradation of the major component, ambrein. The pharmacological activities of ambergris have also been attributed to ambrein.
