Health-related quality of life and family functioning in parents of children with Barth syndrome: an application of the Double ABCX model.

Background: Living with children with disabilities has a significant impact on parental health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and family functioning. Barth syndrome (BTHS) is a rare, X-linked disorder that primarily affects males, presenting symptoms such as cardiomyopathy, neutropenia, muscle weakness, and growth delays. In this study, we investigated how a child's functional performance, family cohesion, and satisfaction with healthcare affect parents of children with BTHS.

Effect of SMS Ward Round Notifications on Inpatient Experience in Acute Medical Settings: Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background: Ward rounds are an essential component of inpatient care. Patient participation in rounds is increasingly encouraged, despite the occasional complicated circumstances, especially in acute care settings.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of real-time ward round notifications using SMS text messaging on the satisfaction of inpatients in an acute medical ward.

Fused terthiophene end-capped with barbituric acid as non-fullerene n-type small molecule for an organic photo-detector.

In this work, a new n-type small molecule consisting of a fused thiophene backbone and barbituric acid as the electron-withdrawing group is reported. For green-selective organic photodiodes, when combined with p-type subphthalocyanine, the external quantum efficiency reached 64% at -3 V, owing to suitable absorption properties, efficient charge separation and relatively good transport.

Pathogenic germline variants in cancer predisposition genes in patients with multiple primary cancers in an Asian population and the role of extended panel genetic testing.

Background: Multiple primary cancers (MPC) are an indicator of potential hereditary cancer predisposition syndrome. There remains insufficient data on genetic testing outcomes and the optimal testing panel for MPC. We evaluated the prevalence of MPC, the spectrum of pathogenic germline variants (PGVs) and the role of extended panel testing in MPC.
