Prognostic value of a composite physiologic index developed by adding bronchial and hyperlucent volumes quantified via artificial intelligence technology.

Background: The composite physiologic index (CPI) was developed to estimate the extent of interstitial lung disease (ILD) in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) patients based on pulmonary function tests (PFTs). The CALIPER-revised version of the CPI (CALIPER-CPI) was also developed to estimate the volume fraction of ILD measured by CALIPER, an automated quantitative CT postprocessing software. Recently, artificial intelligence-based quantitative CT image analysis software (AIQCT), which can be used to quantify the bronchial volume separately from the ILD volume, was developed and validated in IPF.

Novel artificial intelligence-based identification of drug-gene-disease interaction using protein-protein interaction.

The evaluation of drug-gene-disease interactions is key for the identification of drugs effective against disease. However, at present, drugs that are effective against genes that are critical for disease are difficult to identify. Following a disease-centric approach, there is a need to identify genes critical to disease function and find drugs that are effective against them.

Enhancement of the thermoelectric figure of merit in the Dirac semimetal CdAs by band-structure and -filling control.

Topological materials attract a considerable research interest because of their characteristic band structure giving rise to various new phenomena in quantum physics. Besides this, they are tempting from a functional materials point of view: Topological materials bear potential for an enhanced thermoelectric efficiency because they possess the required ingredients, such as intermediate carrier concentrations, large mobilities, heavy elements etc. Against this background, this work reports an enhanced thermoelectric performance of the topological Dirac semimetal CdAs upon alloying the trivial semiconductor ZnAs.

Background/objectives: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of upper and lower motor neurons. Key factors contributing to neuronal death include mitochondrial energy damage, oxidative stress, and excitotoxicity. The frontal cortex is crucial for action initiation, planning, and voluntary movements whereas the spinal cord facilitates communication with the brain, walking, and reflexes.
