[Bacterial contamination after use and assessment of countermeasures a dust mask facepiece].

Objective: Bacteria on the facepiece of a dust respirator were measured just after use and after 24-hours storage at a room temperature after being worn, and bacteria disinfection methods other than ethanol were examined.

Methods: The existence of bacteria on a facepiece of a mask that had been worn for about one hour in a laboratory was investigated. In order to eliminate bacteria before use on the next day, five methods of bacteria disinfection were investigated: wiping with a facial tissue impregnated with ethanol as a control; wiping with a facial tissue wetted with tap water; wiping with a dry facial tissue after wiping with one wetted with tap water; wiping with a dry facial tissue after wiping with one wetted with distilled water; and wiping with a dry facial tissue two times.

Role of protein kinase C in the inhibition by fibroblast growth factor of apoptosis in serum-depleted endothelial cells.

Apoptosis in vascular endothelial cells is suppressed by fibroblast growth factor (FGF)1. In order to investigate the signal transduction system that regulates endothelial apoptosis, we studied the effects of several mitogenic factors. Apoptosis occurred in human vascular endothelial cells under serum-free conditions, and FGF inhibited apoptosis without a requirement of any cooperative factors, as distinct from the mitogenic response.

[Clinical effects of an ampicillin suppository (KS-R1) in urinary tract infection of children].

Clinical effects of ampicillin suppository (KS-R1) were examined in 24 children (11 male and 13 female) aged from 5 months to 7 years 5 months with urinary tract infection. KS-R1 was rectally given to the patients at doses of average 45.6 mg/kg/day divided into 3 to 4 times for average 8 days.
