Background: Smoking is responsible for a large proportion of cancer, respiratory and cardiovascular deaths. Nevertheless the health risks of smoking are still underestimated in many smokers. The present study aimed to examine neurobiological responses to graphical warnings on cigarette packings in non-smokers and patients with tobacco dependence.

Attachment insecurity and psychological resources associated with adjustment disorders.

This study examined the adult attachment styles, interpersonal distance from potential attachment figures and strangers, coping strategies, perceived social support, and stress-related self-variables among patients diagnosed with adjustment disorders (AJD). Seventy patients at an outpatient clinic and 61 matched controls completed a battery of standardized questionnaires. Univariate and multivariate statistical analyses were used to evaluate the parameters of interest.

High level of free-living energy expenditure in rural Gambian men: lack of behavioural adaptation between low and normal BMI groups.

Objective: To explore if a behavioural adaptation--such as a reduction in total free-living energy expenditure (EE)--occurs in Gambian individuals with low body mass index (BMI < 18.5 kg/m2).

Design: Cross-sectional comparative study of young Gambian men living in rural area.
