Morbid obesity among Crohn's disease patients is on the rise and is associated with a higher rate of surgical complications after ileocolic resection.

Aim: Crohn's disease (CD) is regarded as a wasting disease, yet there is a growing population of CD patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 35 and above. The rate of postoperative complications is relatively high in CD patients but might be even higher in CD with morbid obesity (MO).

Methods: This was a retrospective study using a prospectively maintained database of all patients undergoing Ileocolic resection for CD between 2014 and 2021 in two referral centres, comparing postoperative complication rates according to BMI.

The impact of routine cholangiography for asymptomatic patients after cholecystostomy insertion for acute cholecystitis.

Background: We aim to investigate the impact of routine cholangiography on asymptomatic patients with percutaneous cholecystostomy (PCC) for acute cholecystitis (AC).

Methods: The study included all patients treated with PCC for AC from 2017 to 2020 ​at a single academic center. Patients who underwent routine cholangiography within 30 days post-discharge while asymptomatic were compared to patients who were only followed clinically.

Risk Factors for Rectal Cancer Recurrence after Local Excision of T1 Lesions from a Decade-Long Multicenter Retrospective Study.

Local surgical excision of T1 rectal adenocarcinoma is a well-established approach. Yet, there are still open questions regarding the recurrence rates and its risk factors. A retrospective multicenter study including all patients who underwent local excision of early rectal cancer with an open or MIS approach and had a T1 lesion from 2010 to 2020 in six academic centers.
